Warren Halsey Brown, 67, a former music teacher at Kent Place School, an exclusive all-girls preparatory school in Summit, New Jersey, has been arrested on allegations of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Brown, who as arrested late last month, made his initial court appearance today and entered a plea of not guilty to charges of first-and second-degree sexual assault and an additional charge of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Brown had taught music at Kent Place School for 15 years and had been chairman of the music department. According to the prosecutor, Brown met the victim in September 2007 and by the following September had begun a sexual relationship with the girl.
Reportedly Brown resigned from the school after being accused of “violating school policies”.
Brown came to the attention of authorities after the victim’s parents became suspicious and notified police.
Brown’s attorney has indicated that she would seek to have his bail bail reduced to the minimum $150,000.
Brown is currently being held in the Union County Jail in lieu of $275,000 bail on the sexual assault charges and $100,000 the endangering charge. Brown’s attorney says that Brown underwent quadruple-bypass surgery for a pre-existing heart condition about two weeks ago.

Warren Brown on Tuesday reportedly pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual assault and admitted that he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.
Brown faces up to five years in prison at sentencing on October 23rd.
He will be required to register as a sex offender.
