(11/19/08 – Initial BadBadTeacher.com Report)
Victoria Ann Chacon, 27, a former teacher at Somerset Junior High School in Somerset, Texas has been arrested on charges of distributing harmful material to a minor.

Chacon came to the attention of authorities in March when the mother of a 14-year-old boy allegedly found two love letters from Chacon to her son. It is also alleged that in those letters, “Chacon professes her love for the teen about how passionate he is, and about how she feels when she and the teen kiss each other.”
When school administrators were informed of the accusations against Chacon she was placed on administrative leave and an investigation was initiated. Shortly thereafter Chacon resigned from the school system. School officials did not find evidence that Chacon had engaged in any improper relationships with Somerset ISD students.
Reportedly the initial police investigation was put on hold because the boy refused to give a statement about the extent of his relationship with Chacon.
In July the boy’s parents again contacted police when they allegedly discovered that he had a cell phone that did not provide him and which contained topless photos of Chacon.
A grand jury subpoena revealed that the phone was under an account owned by Chacon and that she and the teen had been calling each other.
Chacon was arrested Tuesday after a months-long investigation by San Antonio Police.

The problem I have with this thread is that regardless of how one wants to interpret the moralities of what happened here, the fact is Miss Chacon knew the laws and chose to break them. That’s all that matters. She supplied the kid with a phone against his parents’ wishes and stuck naked pics of herself on it. This isn’t an issue of marriage, it’s an issue of Miss Chacon intentionally undermining the ethics the boy’s parents wished to instill. For that reason alone she should not be teaching. As a parent of a yougn impressionable boy, I think she should be removed as a threat. The reason the law is so harsh in these situations is because kids are taught that teachers are someone to respect and obey. We drill in them to do as the teacher says and do everything they can to succeed in that teacher’s class. When the teacher takes advantage of that trust the parents have taught their kids, they are screwing a lot more than the kid.

MikeP says “We don’t let children these days get married at 12 years old because our advances in modern medicine are allowing us to live past 30. Some of the cultures that are being referred to here either eat bugs and bark everyday or strap bombs on themselves and create their own short life expectancy and have to marry that early.”
Oh, nice. You mean like JAPAN, one of the most modern, safe societies on earth, where the age of consent is 12? Or like Spain, where it’s also 12? In most of Europe, it’s between 12 and 15. From my travels in Europe and Japan, I don’t recall seeing people eating any bugs. No, they just prefer to not criminalize young people at the age when they start being sexually active anyway.
If you’re determined to cast aspersions on the ages of marriageability are different from ours, you might want to note that in China, it’s 22, and in India, it’s 21. So I guess that proves that China and India are somehow more sensible, moral and advanced than the US, where the oldest marriageability age is just 18. Even in the US, many states have the age of marriageability at 15 and even 14.
SOMEONE has a little trouble with reality.
