Vernon E. Heizer, 50, of Nespelem, Washington, a 6th grade teacher and assistant wrestling coach at Grand Coulee Middle School has been arrested on charges of second degree rape of a child, third degree rape of a child, child molestation and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
In addition to being a teacher and coach, Heizer is reportedly a reserve police officer in the Grand Coulee Police Department.
Heizer has reportedly been under investigation for several months by the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Department which has thus far refused to release any information regarding the alleged victim’s sex, age or relationship to Heizer.
Update 07/24/07:
Court records indicate that the incidents occurred between October or November 2006 and July 2007 and that the victim is a female that was once Heizer’s student.
It is alleged that Heizer gave the girl a cell phone and that they communicated over a period of several months. The relationship apparently began when the girl was 14-years-old and started with inappropriate talk, escalated to touching and then to a sexual relationship. It is alleged that their last sexual contact was on July 2nd.
It is also alleged that the two used a condom each time they had sex, that they once watched a movie on his laptop computer and that they had e-mailed each other pictures of their genital areas.
Heizer is set for arraignment on July 26 and remains jailed in lieu of bail of $150,000.
As conditions of bail Heizer must have no contact with the alleged victim and not go within 100 yards of her residence, school, work place or church.
Update 9/16/07:
Vernon E. Heizer was was arrested again by detectives Friday, for stalking and violating a protection order.
Reportedly after Heizer bailed out of jail, he was still stalking the victim from the case he was previously arrested for and had been seen several times in the area of the victim’s residence and at school by several different subjects.
Heizer is being held on $100,000 bail.
3/13/08 - Guilty Plea
Vern Heizer has pleaded guilty on charges of child rape and child molestation.
At sentencing Heizer faces a sentencing range on the rape charge from 26 to 34 months and from 15 to 20 months on the child molestation count.
05/19/08 - Sentencing
On Friday Vernon E. Heizer was sentenced to two years and 10 months with the entire sentence suspended except for the 9 months Heizer has already spent in jail.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Heizer must complete three to four years of outpatient sex offender treatment, is prohibited from contact with other minors and being within 100 yards of the home, school or workplace of the victim. He will be required to register as a sex offender.

Zach Pryor if he was so outstanding then why would he do this to a poor child? Who was the adult here? He was. This article just shows the charges not the story behind it. Maybe you should get your facts before you defend someone like this.

The previous reply was made by a former student of Mr. Heizer as well as classmate of the alleged victim. I feel bad for her knowing that many of her peers may also have similar opinions due to their own immaturity. I hope she will have the support she needs.
It’s nice to know this kid’s surfing the internet at 3 in the morning. I hope somebody’s watching….

i think you all are mis judging the whole point of view “you cant rape the willing” also Mr. Heizer was an outstanding person.. you should look at it from the victims mind..
