Timothy Lynn Brumit, an English teacher at Batesburg-Leesville High School in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina has reportedly been charged in federal court with distributing child pornography and soliciting sex from a minor over the Internet.
Brumit was snared in an on-line sting operated by Dumfries, Virginia Police. A sting in which a police officer was posing as a 13-year-old boy. The officer indicated that during the on-line conversations between himself and Brumit that the man sent to him numerous pictures and vidoes of young boys engaged in various sexual acts.
It is also alleged that Brumit stated that he wanted to pick up the boy in Virginia and take him back to South Carolina to live with him for the purposes of engaging in a sexual relationship.
Brumit who is set to be arraigned next week is also reportedly a Baptist minister having previously worked as a pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina.
Reportedly Brumit taught in Aiken School District in 2000, McCormick School District from 2001 to 2005 and the Allendale School District from 2005 to 2007.
Brumit is currently on paid administrative leave from the school system.
1/29/08 - Court Appearance
Timothy Brumit made an appearance before a federal judge today and was ordered held until he faces trial.
Assistant US Attorney Dean Eichelberger said of the child pornography allegedly discovered on Brumit’s home computer:
“Those images ran the gamut. Unfortunately, it goes down to single digit infants being subjected to some pretty horrific sexual acts. This is very extreme pornography. Well, it’s not even pornography. It’s a visual record of the rape of a child.“.
Reportedly the case of Timothy Lynn Brumit will be moved to eastern Virginia were a grand jury awaits.
3/13/08 - Guilty Plea
Timothy Lynn Brumit today pleaded guilty in federal court to attempting to entice a person he believed to be a 13-year-old boy to engage in illicit sexual conduct and to transporting child pornography, via the Internet.
Brumit, who will be sentenced on June 6, 2008, faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of ten years and a maximum sentence of life on the child enticement charge.
06/18/09 - Sentencing
Timothy Brumit has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Following the completion of his prison sentence Brumit will remain under court supervision for the rest of his life and will be required to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives, works, or goes to school.

I am very sad to hear of this revelation. My family knew Mr. Brumit and his family. We listened to his distaught conversations on his poor relationship with his son and showed support for the toughness of sharing custody. We just found this out as we were trying to follow up on how he was doing after his mother’s death recently as well as send a family birth announcement. Our family was even going to consider him for a godfather. I’m heartbroken at this revelation.

Mr. Brumit was the absolute best teacher ever. He was super to us and had low level students that didnt even know how to write a sentence, writing papers. I personally believe this was a setup. Mr. Brumit did make jokes and maybe he cussed every now and then, but i must admit it made the school day go by soo much faster. I will always believe that he is a great man as well as a preacher. He taught us about god also. I simply believe that he had trust issues! On the last day of school he wrote a poem for the entire class and it was so sweet. He even cried when he read it to us! Mr.Brumit was the best damn teacher i ever had. All of u other people shouldnt be judging him if u dont know him personally!

Mr. Brumit was my 9th grade teacher and I can witness about things he use to do. Some of the girls use to sit in his lap and he would always talk about his ex-wife and women in a manner that was unsuitable for a class setting and for a “pastor”.He also cursed frequently and Im not suprised at all about this. It was only a matter of time. When we were in school, it was just “gossip” I guess, but i nver thought it would come to this. This only means that school administration and parents need to pay more attention. This happens everyday.

There are previous posters saying he was their English teacher and great at his job. Judging by your posts I’d have to disagree. Maybe he was too busy fantasizing about raping you to put much effort into really teaching anything.

Tim was my co-worker the only year that I taught. He truly felt like my only supporter at that school and I’m not sure I could have gotten through the school year without him. One day I was going to quit and he talked me into staying until the end of the year.
However, I also felt that he constantly talked about sex. This made me uncomfortable and I had to turn down his advances many times. I put up with this behavior because it was a very tough place to work and I needed a friend.
I always thought that he would be charged with sexual harrassment. This has totally blown my mind because I never imagined that he would be into molesting children. I pretty much thought that he was just the run-of-the-mill-obsessed-with-sex-man.

i dont know this guy-all i see is dumb statements.why do you wait till now? 2 say stuff? hindsight is 20/20.its very easy to put a person down.till it happens in your family.
just wish teachers-who are not in trouble,would read this webside.before they commit a crime.maybe they think twice,about the outcome.and it does not look pretty.now does it?

I was talkin to as tudent the other day and we had a conversation about Mr. Brumit. She stated that He told her when she graduate he had an apartment she could have stayed in. I’ve had this on my chest, but i knew that something like this was going to soon happen. He was too fresh
