Sylvester L. Jones, 56, of Morrisville, Pennsylvania and a former Trenton, New Jersey gym teacher caught allegedly having sex with a student in a park will go to trial on charges in Pennsylvania for corruption of a minor, disorderly conduct and trespass.
At a hearing today, the judge dismissed a charge of indecent exposure.
Jones also faces a charge of sexual assault in New Jersey regarding incidents with the same 17-year-old female student .
Update 8/02/07:
Sylvester Jones facing charges in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania was today permitted to enter the Pretrial Intervention Program in New Jersey. The PTI program, which is for first-time, non-violent offenders, does not require a guilty plea. The prosecuting attorney speaking of Jones entering the PTI program said, “He’s gotten the deal of the century. And he knows it”. The prosecutor said the deal was due to the victim’s refusal to cooperate in the prosecution.
Jones still faces charges in Pennsylvania.
