(04/15/08 – Initial BBT Report)
Steven Martin Parkman, 32, director of orchestra at Carl Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia has resigned his job and been arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female student.

Parkman came to the attention of authorities who were contacted by school officials.
A school district spokesperson said that Parkman “resigned in lieu of termination” although students were reportedly told that he resigned for “personal reasons”.
Parkman had taught at the school for four years and was credited with major improvement of the school’s orchestral program. In February Parkman was honored as the Student and Teacher Achievement Recognition program teacher of the 2007-2008 year for Harrison High School.
Following his arrest Parkman was held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $35,000 bail.
12/03/08 – Dismissal of Charges Sought
Steve Parkman, who allegedly told investigators that he and a student had sexual contact four times beginning last February, is seeking a dismissal of the charges against him on the basis that the law prohibiting teacher and student sexual relations is unconstitutional.
Parkman maintains that the law is unconstitutional on the claim that “it lacks sufficient specificity, is void for vagueness and does not give a person of ordinary intelligence fair warning that specific conduct is forbidden”.

So where is the update to this teacher’s case? This story was posted here over one year ago. What a disservice to him if the charged have been dropped, but anyone reading this account would assume is is still considered an accused criminal.

We are aware of no updates to the case subsequent to our 12/03/08 update in which it was revealed that Steven Parkman was challenging the law as being unconstitutional. In such scenarios it is often YEARS before the case concludes owing to various courts and appeals through which the case passes. – webmaster
Parkman was a great teacher, tho. He really helped everyone improve. I was only his student for about a year before a moved out of district but since I had been gone I always heard awesome things about what he was doing for the orchestra. Personally, who gives a crap if he had a student slutty enough to have sex with a married man.
My whole family always thaught this guy was creepy. He was a hard-(***) jerk, too. My sister might have stayed in orchestra if would’ve gotten arrested sooner…
He was mean to me back in the day, too, and I was only eight!
