Stephanie Ann Stein, 31, a former teacher at Plymouth Christian Academy, in Canton, Michigan has been arraigned on charges she had sex with a 15-year-old student and engaged in graphic conversations with him on the internet.
Allegedly Stein befriended the boy last summer and her relationship with him became physical this last summer. Stein came to the attention of authorities when during the past summer the boy’s mother came home and found Stein at her house.
Reportedly, Stein is being charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct 3rd Degree, 1 count of Using the Internet to Communicate with a Minor to Commit a Crime and 1 count of Distributing Obscene Material of a Sexual Nature to a Minor.
Stein who resigned from her teaching position in June was released on $50,000 personal bond on condition she have no contact with the alleged victim.
Stein is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 28th.
9/28/07 - Preliminary Hearing
At Stein’s preliminary hearing today the 15-year-old “victim” testified that he loved her, wanted to have sex with her and wouldn’t take no for an answer.
The boy was the only witness at the preliminary hearing and basically testified that he pursued Stein until he broken down her resistance to a sexual affair.
The prosecuting attorney pointed out “Under the law, it doesn’t matter whose idea it was — he’s a minor”…
04/03/08 - Stein Headed To Trial
After seven months of unsuccessful efforts to set up a plea deal Stephanie Stein is headed to trial although a trial date is yet to be set.
06/17/08 - Stein Found Guilty
It took the jury less than two hours of deliberation to find Stephanie Stein guilty on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of using the Internet to communicate with a minor to commit a crime and one count of distributing obscene material of a sexual nature to a minor.
Stein faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing which is set for July 2nd.
Following the guilty verdict Stein is being held at the Wayne County Jail.
Commentary and Opinion:
Unlike a generation ago, it is not often that the defense attorney for a person accused of sex crimes blames the alleged victim of those sex crimes. That is however the approach taken by Stepahani Stein’s attorney and obviously the jury was not buying into the “he held power over her defense” as presented by Stein’s lawyer.
So what if the boy hit on Stein for days, weeks or months on end?
Stein, supposedly an adult, was required by law to resist the temptation of having sex with an underaged student regardless of what he said or did and in that she failed and failed miserably.
It is an insult to the intelligence of normal people for Stein’s defense to claim that “he made her do it” and if Stein sticks with this silly approach to her legal predicament odds are she will actually end up being sentenced to 15 years in prison rather than getting the “female discount sentence” which seems so common of recent…
07/03/08 - Sentencing
Stephanie Stein was sentenced today in Wayne County Circuit Court to three to fifteen years in prison on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Craig Strong also sentenced Stein to 30 to 48 months on the using the Internet to communicate with a minor to commit a crime count and 16 to 24 months on the count of distributing obscene material of a sexual nature to a minor. These latter two sentences are to run concurrent with the sentence on criminal sexual conduct.

Sod, you met her one time 10 years ago and could tell she was a creep? Why didn’t you call the cops? This is a rediculous statement. I grew up with her and sure, she was stuck up, but not creepy. I feel bad for her husband and kids. I never met them but this has to be very tough for them. In HS I was friends with her brother and the two of them were very close. He was a real nice guy and I’m sure this is hard on him too. I just can’t imagine what would make anyone hurt so many people like this.

3 years? She got the female discount for sure.
I met her when I served on the Board of Directors of a Non-Profit a little over 10 years ago. She was a little creepy and was after one of the younger members.

Here is what she has been charged with CSC 3RD DEGREE (MULTIPLE). If she was infact so distraught over her own miserable life she should have put in for FMLA until she could get herself together. What she did do is NOT the most brilliant choice she has made. I must agree I hope she gets what she deserves and I hope she likes living in Scotts Womens Crrectional Facility, If she would have raped my son prison would have been to easy for her sorry butt. I am sure her children will be so proud of their mother. What a perfect example of another wasted human life. Fortunately, if it was not for this form of human trash I too would be out of a job. keep up the great work Wayne County citizens. Commit your crimes we need our jobs!

3rd degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
A. 3rd degree CSC requires proof of “sexual penetration” and one or more of the following elements:
1. Victim is under 13, and defendant is less than 3 years older.
2. Victim is 13, 14, or 15, and
a. defendant is 2 years older
3. Victim is 16 or 17, and
a. defendant has Significant Relationship to victim; or
b. defendant is in Position of Authority over victim, and defendant is over 4 years older, and uses that position so victim will submit; or
c. defendant has Significant Relationship to victim, and:
i. uses force or coercion
ii. uses or threatens use of real or fake weapon,
iii. causes victim reasonable fear of imminent great bodily harm.
iv. causes personal injury to the victim, or
v. there are multiple sexual acts committed over an extended time.
4. Defendant uses force or coercion.
5. Defendant knows or has reason to know victim is:
a. mentally impaired
b. mentally incapacitated, or
c. physically helpless.
6. Defendant is aided or abetted by accomplices, and:
a. an accomplice uses force or coercion, or
b. an accomplice uses or threatens the use of a real or fake dangerous weapon.
RAPES IN A THERAPEUTIC SETTING
1. Defendant is a psychotherapist, and
a. victim is a patient, and the act occurs during a therapy session; or
b. victim is a patient or former patient, and the victim is emotionally dependent on defendant; or
c. victim is a patient or former patient, and the act results from a therapeutic deception.
2. The defendant is a health care professional, and the act occurs by means of false representation that it is for a bona fide medical purpose.

yes buffy-indeed.i have been reading this website for a long time-and the woman get a slap on the wrist-the guys get 10-15 years.and with the new law in place,they have to do 85% of the time. so whats wrong with the american justice system? give the woman the same amount of time.what i dont get-people keep doing this kinda stuff.and its not just teachers. in europa its a whole different ballgame,no sex offender list and a slap on the wrist for everyone.

You are right, Easteregg, there is a lot of double standard on this issue. Much of society believes it is somehow different when the teacher is female. The law is the law, and quite frankly, women teachers have gotten away with this type of behavior for far too long.
