Shawn Jeter, 34, a vocational agriculture teacher at Pinedale High School, in Pinedale, Wyoming has been charged on allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a female student.
Jeter is charged with crimes in two counties.
News media reports indicate that Jeter faces four counts of second-degree sexual assault and six counts of third-degree sexual assault in Sublette County and that he faces counts of third-degree sexual assault and indecent liberties with a child in Natrona County.
It is alleged that the sexual relationship between Jeter and the girl began in October 2004 and ended in February 2007. The alleged sexual activity between Jeter and the girl in Natrona County is said to have taken place in in 2006 and 2007 when Jeter and the student were in Casper, Wyoming for school activities.
Allegedly in March Jeter admitted to investigators that he had sex with the girl and that he gave her a Valentine’s Day card and money in January.
Reportedly Jeter came to the attention of authorities when another student reported seeing Jeter and the girl kiss during school hours and in a school facility.
Jeter who is free on bond is scheduled for trial in Sublette County in November.
04/23/08 - Guilty Plea and Sentencing
Shawn Jeter has pleaded guilty in Natrona County District Court to charges of third-degree sexual assault and indecent liberties with a minor.
Jeter has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison. The sentence will run concurrent with an additional 15 to 20 years in prison handed down in Sublette and Converse counties in cases involving the same victim.
