Scott Southerland, 49, of Bloomington, Illinois and a substitute teacher in the Unit 5, Disrict 87, Ridgeview, Farmer City and Pontiac school districts has been arrested on child pornography charges.
Southerland reportedly came to the attention of police when a housekeeper discovered pornographic pictures.
A subsequent search conducted by Bloomington Police found approximately 100 lewd photos of young boys. Allegedly Southerland admitted to viewing child porn on his computer and visiting sites where he discussed his interest in little boys.
Bond for Southerland has been set at $25,000 and as condition of bond he is prohibited from any contact with any children under age 18. The court did permit Southerland to live out of state with his parents in Indiana.
11/28/07 – State Charges Dismissed, Feds Take Over
Child pornography charges filed against Scott Southerland in McLean County have been dismissed.
Southerland remains in federal custody on child pornography charges at least until a bond hearing in federal district court, a hearing which reportedly has not been scheduled as of yet.
If convicted on the federal charges Southerland could face as much as 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000.
05/15/08 – Sentencing
Scott W. Southerland who pleaded guilty in January to federal child pornography charges has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
Following his prison sentence Southerland will be on a lifetime term of supervised release.
