Scott Eugene Dietlin, 34, a economics and history teacher at Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, California has been arrested on charges that he sent electronic messages to a minor in an effort to seduce the teen.

According to the Burlingame Police Department, Dietlin was arrested Saturday morning on charges of sending harmful matter (via electronic e-mail) with the intent to seduce a minor, attempting to contact a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense and arranging to meet with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense.

The arrest was made in in San Mateo and Dietlin was booked into San Mateo County Jail, where he reportedly remains in custody on $550,000 bail with arraignment set for this morning.

Dietlin came to the attention of authorities when two local teens established a profile on MySpace and posted a photo of a young woman as though it were her profile.

It is alleged that Dietlin started engaging in e-mails with them, and when the minors realized something wasn’t right, they came forward to police and a detective began posing as a teenage girl, struck up communication with Dietlin, who then allegedly arranged a time to meet with the “teen” in San Mateo for a potential sexual encounter.

12/10/08 – Arraignment

Scott Dietlin appeared in court for arraignment but delayed entering pleas to the charges.

Reportedly his defense attorney asked for more time to evaluate evidence.

Dietlin remains jailed in lieu of $700,000 bond.

12/23/08 – Court Appearance

Scott Eugene Dietlin appeared today in San Mateo County Superior Court and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Dietlin remains in custody in lieu of $700,000 bail.

02/06/09 – Preliminary Hearing Postponed

A preliminary hearing for Scott Dietlin, charged with three felony counts of sexually explicit communication with a minor, one count of attempted communication with a minor and two counts of arranging to meet with a minor, has been postponed until later this month.

Dietlin’s preliminary hearing, originally scheduled for Thursday, was reset to February 19th.

Dietlin remains in custody in lieu of $700,000 bail.

02/20/09 – Preliminary Hearing Waived

Scott Dietlin has waived his right to a preliminary.

Dietlin will appear in Superior Court on March 11 to enter a plea and set a date for a jury trial.

Dietlin remains in custody in lieu of $700,000 bail.

04/08/09 – No Contest Plea

Scott Dietlin has reportedly pleaded no contest to one count of arranging to meet with a minor for the purpose of engaging in a lewd act.

Under the terms of the plea deal, six other counts were dropped by prosecutors.

Also under terms of the plea deal, Dietlin agreed to spend up to two years in state prison.

Dietlin, who has been in custody since his arrest, will be formerly sentenced on June 2.

06/02/09 – Sentencing

Scott Dietlin has reportedly been sentenced to two years in state prison.

With credit for time served, Dietlin will serve a total of about 15 months in prison.

Dietlin is required to register as a sex offender.

    I was one of his students and this guy was a (Expletive deleted by site moderator) creep. i hated him. he talked down to us like we were 5, and was a jerk . not ot mention he would be staring at your (Expletive deleted by site moderator) when you tried to talk to him about anything. this (Expletive deleted by site moderator) deserves to stay there. we also might think that he had a mail order bride. he’s nasty, gross, and i hope that he can forgive himself.

    Another goatee & mustache; one of the masks of a predator on this site. There is also another issue; entrapment. Is it perfectly legal to do what these teenagers did? Of course, he was a fool to fall for such stupid bait. However, there could be a time when a person’s thoughts will be outlawed. Think about it and hope you won’t get arrested for it.
