Sarah Elizabeth Joel, a teacher at Narcoosee School, a charter school, in Osceola County, Florida has been arrested on three counts of lewd & lascivious battery on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with boy who is a former student.
Joel came to the attention of authorities when a Harmony High School teacher told officer that one of her students was suspected of having a sexual relationship with his former teacher.
Sheriff’s deputies say that the relationship between Joel and the student became sexual in nature late last year.
Joel is being held in Osceola County Jail with no bond set as of Friday.
09/13/08 - Guilty Plea
Sarah Joel pleaded guilty today to one count of sexual activity with a child 16 or 17 for having a relationship with an underage former student.
Joel will be sentenced on November 7th.
11/17/08 - Sentencing
Sarah Elizabeth Joel has been sentenced to two years on house arrest, to be followed by eight years probation.
The prosecution had sought a sentence of at least five years in prison.
In the wake of the light sentence, Assistant State Attorney Amy Chandler was quoted as saying, “Somehow it’s become OK for a female teacher to have sex with a child with no punishment, while a man would go to prison.”

So maybe she’s over 23. There is no difference because an 18 years old is an adult. So she’s over 23, an 18 years old banging a 16 or 17 year old is the same as a 24 year old banging a 16 or 17 year old. At least it was girl on guy instead of guy on guy, which is gross and should be a crime. Girl on girl is ok in my book - I don’t condon it but I’d like to watch.

in Florida, 16 year olds (not “legal”) can legally “bang” anyone up to the age of 23.
Joel is clearly over 23.

It it because the boy was a former student or because of the boy’s age that makes this a crime? Neither should be a crime - a former student is not a student of her’s anymore and what about all the 18 and 19 years old boys banging the 16 and 17 year old girls? Where’s the crime? What’s the crime?
