(06/07/08 - Initial BBT Report)
Sarah Jayne Bridges, 24, a substitute teacher in the Eugene School District in Eugene, Oregon has been arrested and charged with third-degree rape, sodomy and sexual assault.

It is alleged that Bridges engaged in sexual activity with a male middle school student in March of this year with the alleged sexual assault said to have taken place away from the school.
Thus far the police and the school system have provided no information on the age, grade level or school of the alleged victim.
Bridges came to the attention of the police by way of school officials.
Bridges teaching privileges with the school system have been suspended.
06/08/08 - Sarah Bridges Released on Bail
Sarah Bridges was released on bail on Saturday morning.
07/16/08 - Guilty Plea and Sentencing
Today Sarah Bridges pleaded guilty to rape in the third degree and sodomy in the third degree.
Bridges was sentenced to 60 days in jail, five years probation and $1,000 in court assessments.
Bridges was also ordered to undergo sex-offender treatment, refrain from having any contact with minors, provide a DNA sample, register as a sex offender and undergo a polygraph examination upon the request of her probation officer.
07/29/08 - No Room For Bridges In the Jail
Sarah Jayne Bridges has yet to start her 60 day jail sentence, reportedly due to no room in the jail.
The Deputy DA says that the sentence would likely be short because of jail overcrowding.
Webmaster’s Opinion/Editorial:
Can there be any question that Sarah Bridges received the “female discount” at sentencing?
Especially in light of the statement from the DA’s office that Bridges’ jail stay will likely be less then 10 days, due to jail crowding?
It looks like Bridges had a lawyer that was fully aware of when to plead, how to plead and before which judge to plead to obtain the best “sweetheart deal” available to a child rapist.
Now, who will believe for a second that the same judge would give the same deal to a 24-year-old male teacher accused of the rape of a middle school female student?
Hands?
Anyone?

It is a travesty that someone who cares so much for her students, friends and family has had to endure this hardship. Sarah is an extremely compassionate, bright and selfless person who got mixed up with someone who thought only of their own needs, wants and desires. A beautiful heart such as hers did not deserve to fall victim to the selfish, careless person that managed to manipulate her thoughts and emotions. Life is a series of lessons to be learned, I know. However, I am still struggling to understand why she has had to pay such a high price when there were two victims in this case.
Sarah - stay strong, stay beautiful and don’t forget who you are. In case you ever do, I will be right behind you. Turn around….your family and friends still love you as much as they always have and believe in you. One moment in time will not define your life nor will it ever be able to burnish that beautiful heart that you possess.

In response to Ryan… Maybe she did plead guilty but does that change the fact that her friends and family or who ever is writing on her website love her or cares about her. Maybe if you DID know her, you may have a different response. You obviously DON”T know her. Not everyone who commits a crime is a bad person.
Think about Ryan, how hard is it for a female to rape a male? Hmmm pretty damn hard I would say. So think about that the next time you want to make her out to be some crazy child rapist or any other person on this website for that matter. It takes two to tango so when will the students who engage in these adult acts be held accountable for thier actions? It is not always one sided.
Yes she pead guity and yes she got a fairly light sentence but maybe there are things about the case that you don’t know and that is why she got off easy.
I know her personally and she is a great person who made a mistake and realizes she made a mistake. I just hope RYAN AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO DOES NOT KNOW HER THAT HAS SAID SOMETHING NOT SO NICE ABOUT HER that the next time you make a mistake, whether large or small, that people are not so forgiving of you since you seem not to be so forgiving of others.
I have noticed that everyone who has made a post that knows her talks about how great of a person she is. I even see some of her former students who know her saying supportive comments about her. Those students should still support her because she is the same person that wondered the hall ways everyday who just happened to make a mistake. She would be supportive of any of her student or family or freinds if they ever made a mistake. I know she still cares about every single one of her students….because she has told me.

Hmmm…to all those who are family friends, “oh you should know her”, and “people should stop presuming…”
Are you convinced by her guilty plea? Or do you need more than this? I’m pretty sure GUILTY is GUILTY.
I agree with the Webmaster…it’s a travesty this woman isn’t being put away. If this were a male it certainly would be a different case.

@ Daniel R.
So, from your post, I gather she wasn’t an English teacher?
