(09/26/08 - Initial BadBadTeacher.com Report)
Sandra Binkley, 36, a math teacher at Portland High School in Portland, Tennessee has been arrested and charged with statutory rape by an authority figure for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old male student.

It is alleged that Binkley had sex with the boy during March of this year during school hours and when other students were in the building.
Brinkley came to the attention of authorities when the boy reportedly told his parents earlier this week and they in turn contacted school administrators.
The father of the boy has been quoted in news media reports as saying, “He said she was okay, she was real nice. He said she was real friendly.”
Binkley reportedly turned herself in to police on Thursday and was subsequently released from the Sumner County jail on $5,000 bond.
Binkley who has reportedly taught at the school for 10 years has been placed on administrative leave without pay by the school system.

Whether or not sleeping with a MINOR, and a STUDENT under one’ care is a crime is not up for debate.
It is a crime because it is AGAINST THE LAW. If you disagree with the law, go ahead and lobby your state legislature to make it legal to have sex with children - good luck on that one.
So yes…it is a CRIME?????????

Well, the police seems to think it’s a crime nonetheless. I guess that’s where the counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and sexual battery by an authority figure come from. I’m gonna go with the law on this one and say what she did is a crime.

Peter Rabbit - Once again you have no problem condemning and insulting the victims of a case while downplaying the crime this teacher is being accused of. Brilliant work. You really think that having sex with a student is “nothing” ? Parents have a right to expect that their children attend a school where they will not be preyed upon by teachers. I question what kind of parent you must be.
If you discovered your UNDERAGE child was in a sexual relationship with a teacher your reaction would be what? Nothing? You wouldn’t “force action?”
Last time I checked, Peter, alerting the authorities of a potential felony being perpetrated on their child isn’t “forcing action.” It’s what any responsible and decent parent would do.

How much do you want to bet that the parents of the boys are going to try to profit from this no matter what the outcome is. From what I read all they have is angry parents forcing action on something where there’s nothing.
This has turned into a feeding frenzy with boys coming out of the woodwork claiming they had sex with the teacher just to have some fame and bragging rights. I sure these boys haven’t had sex with anyone other than themselves. These are the kind of boys who go to family reunions to meet girls - they don’t know any better.

I do not know anyone in Portland,Tn. It sounds like the boys have very low test scores and can’t read or write. Not long ago students on the honor row were envyed by teachers and classmates alike. Just like the boy in Knoxville that was killed last year. This bad teacher needs 20 years in jail for her dirty crimes! GO VOLS!!!!

Things happen in this world everyday to make up stop and say WOW that is sad or man, that is sick or Jeez, I cant believe she is pregnant so young . Where are her morals or their morals ? I’m not here to sling mud with anyone, Honestly I’m not. I have said repeatedly that she doesnt need to teach and she does need punishment for her bad bad choices.
I AM too close to the situation to Look at her any way other than how I know her. She is the Mother of three beautiful little angels. And she is the sister of three brothers that are hurting deeply over this.
I love her and know that she made a stupid stupid decision but I cant convince myself that prison is where she belongs. She was a highly respected person and teacher and friend of hundreds and she has lost total repect from her family, and she has lost trust from her husband and she has lost her job. She will never be able to walk anywhere with out some one pointing or whispering.
If it had been a 12 yr old Id have said lock the door and throw away the key but comparing 16 yr olds to my son I think she has paid a high high price already!
No need for anyone to respond beacuse Alumni was right. I Do have a job and a good life and am blessed and I do have a son that repects and loves me and I do ironically have a Doublewide PHS. But its all mine and I love it and wouldnt want to ever be in anyone elses shoes.
I’m sorry if I offended anyone. Im sure compassion kicked in for the three little ones who have suffered so much dissappointment. I dont want them to lose their mother that they Love and depend on. I already know a few minds are saying that she should have thought of that. I wish I could take back all of my stupid mistakes. Rape is a harsh word for someone who didnt say no. Thats all Im saying………
Now PHS, its my turn to say I’m done and wont be back and your turn to say.”Thank the Lord above shes gone” (Smile)…………Take care
