(01/31/09 – Initial BadBadTeacher.com Report)
Ronald Vos, 53, a computer teacher at Macarthur Middle School in Prospect Heights, Illinois has been charged with sexually molesting a male student.
It is alleged that Vos sexually assaulted the boy beginning when he was 13-years-old and continuing until he was 15-years-old.
Court documents indicate that it is alleged that four separate offenses occurred in Vos’ school office and in his car in Wheeling from September 2005 through March 2007.
Vos was arrested at his home Friday.
He came to the attention of police by way of a tip from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Reportedly Vos appeared for a bail hearing Saturday and was released on a $100,000 bond conditioned upon Vos being prohibited from going near any children, including at MacArthur, other schools or parks.
02/02/09 – Case Update
Police say that Vos allegedly sexually assaulted the juvenile while at school and on three more occasions outside the school between September 2005 and February or March 2007.
It is also reported that computer records indicated Vos and the juvenile agreed to trade sex for beer and cigarettes.
At least one report indicates that Vos remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond although earlier reports indicate he was freed on $100,000 bond. We have no explanation for this discrepancy.

How can you all sit here and say you knew he was guilty? Suicide is not only an act of guilt, think about if he was innocent? Would he ever be able to walk the streets again without people giving him dirty looks? Would he really be able to still work at that school, and if he did-wouldn’t students and parents fight being in his class? Maybe the fact that people actually ACCUSED him of this, and BELIEVED it, maybe that caused him to commit suicide..not guilt, but sadness, and being overwhelmed.
To everyone who thinks that we should all NOT BLAME ANYONE for what has happened here please copy this message and re-post it.
They were both losers looking for love in all the right places. Too bad this Vos guy didn’t expand his love circle for this bi kid.
I cannot believe some of the things other parents have said out here… WE ARE TALKING ABOUT OUR CHILDREN!!! We send them to school, believing that they will be “safe”, and that the teachers are supposed to be there to TEACH, not have inappropriate discussions with students regarding trading SEX for beer and cigarettes!!!!! I also know this child, and the effect the abuse and the subsequent arrest, AND GUILTY plea made by this “teacher” — the abuse, followed by the MOST ABSURD AND INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS MADE, ON THIS WEBSITE, AT THE STUDENT’S CURRENT SCHOOL, ETC. by other PARENTS!!!! This guilt-ridden child has had to see all this news coverage and criticism of HIM?!?!?!? There were people that actually sent TEXT MESSAGES to this child, BLAMING HIM for the death of Mr. Vos….. Parents, what if this were your child that this happened to?!?!?!? The VICTIM is the one that is left suffering — no matter if Mr. Vos “was a nice guy”….. the child is a wonderful, intelligent kid, that has been scarred for life, and is the one that is left having to “come to terms” and live with the effects of the sexual abuse. Mr. Vos plead guilty to this crime. The VICTIM is totally INNOCENT, he was taken advantage of by a TEACHER/ADULT that he “trusted”!!! Get real people!
He Was My Teacher And I Dont Think The Kid Is Lieing Because I Went To School With The Kid And I Know Him.. People Cant Sit Here And Think He Is Lieing.. If There Is Proof And He And Mr. Voss Addmitted To It Then I Think Its Real. Mr. Voss Was A Good Teacher Just Because He Did Something Like This Its His Fult For The Thing He Did But No One Should Disrespect Him In Any Way Just Because He Did Some Thing Wrong GIVE THE MAN A BREAK!!!
Omg!!!
Mr.vos wuz my teacher!!!!!!!!

To blame the teen for any reason is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. Let’s remember the age here, 13. Vos is 45 years old. He should have known better and he is %100 to blame. It is because of people like you saying ridiculous comments such as these that are going to set back the grieving process of the student. Please STOP, since you have absolutely nothing intelligent to say. I feel for the student, the families, and everyone involved. My heart goes out to the victim, and his family and friends, as well as Vos’ family, because they didn’t ask for this to happen. I cringe at telling Vos to rest in peace, because to commit suicide is his last action of a predator. It was his last f$$k you to the student. He should have dealt with what he did like a man. It wasn’t too long ago when the papers announced that he admitted to it all. That is the only good thing he had done. To the souls of the victim, his family and friends, and the family and friends of Vos…RIP

i think it was wrong what the teacher did, but he wouldnt have done it if that kid wouldnt have told him that he wanted beer and ciggarretes they were both wrong to do what they did!!
To Dad of Feb 4: you are right on regarding your comments. It is time for this country to wake up to the evil that surrounds us.
To Shinedown of Feb 4: you are partially correct. Age of consent has nothing to do with this type of crime. Thirteen, 17, 18, even 19 or 20, the age of the victim does not matter because most states have some type of charge that is called “sexual abuse by a custodian or person in position of trust”.
A person in position of trust, a teacher, for heaven’s sake. Teachers have an unusual position in that they have a superiority over students that for most students, keeps them under a psychological, emotional and mental control in the classroom. This is the reason these laws have been written, in order to protect students from teachers who might abuse them physically, psychologically, emotionally, mentally and/or sexually. The age of the student has nothing to do with any of it, as it is the very nature of this superior/subordinate relationship that can lead to abuse. This is seen in other segments of our society, such as in the workplace with male bosses and female emplyees.
Students need to have a safe environment in which they can learn. We need to get rid of teachers who are predators and stop defending them.
This boy will need a lot of help to deal with this. I only hope that he gets that help and realizes that he is not to blame in any way.
Woah. My cousin goes to that school. He said he was a really nice teacher. Hmmm stinks for those kids.
In resonse to a:
Where are you getting your information? Yes, the crime happened 2 years ago. The child did not report it for 2 years. The school was NOT notified until September 2008. At that time Vos was taken out of the classroom IMMEDIATELY! Read your newspaper! Do you really think that a school could ignore a DCFS investigation and push it under the rug? Yes the school and community are saddened. This is a tragedy on so many levels. Most importantly THE SCHOOL HANDLED THIS IN THE MOST PROFESSIONAL MANNER POSSIBLE! How dare you accuse those teachers, administrators, social workers and parents of not handling this to the best of their abilities. They all came together to support each other in this tragedy. The last thing anyone wants is to see this ever happen again!
Everyone seems to be taking sides. Mr Vos was obviously in the wrong and we know now he was a sick man. But it hurts for us former or current students to accept that a likeable teacher would do something like this. We almost feel betrayed. And the worst is that we are still trying to heal from Mr. B’s suicide and then have to deal with this. I graduated from Mac 5 yrs ago and those were some awesome years for me because of the amazing teachers and this is very hard to deal with. I feel for his family. He may have been in the wrong but a human life was still lost. I also feel for the kid. A poor innocent boy lost those childhood years and is constantly reliving this now that it is out in the open. i pray for everyone that is affected and hope Mac will hold strong
response to ANGRY:
How do you feel that this was looked into two years ago and the school DID NOTHING. They kept Vos on staff; hopefully he didn’t destroy the lives of any others. THe poor vitim whose life he destroyed is now on a suicide watch. Should this be put to rest…..ABSOLUTELY NOT. The school did nothing; VOS destroyed a child’s life. As far as Vos’s family…yes they are victims as well. However, when the school posts a letter to parents about how they are saddened by losing a teacher instead of posting a letter about the abuse he has caused, or their irresponsibility to have let this molester stay on staff since 2005 when this was brought to their attention, this should NOT be put to rest. It should NOT be forgotten. Vos took the cowards way out by suicide. He should have taken responsibility for his actions. This poor victim is now being harassed ; he can’t go to school; and is on a suicide watch. Do you think this is right?
We need to put this at rest for the KIDS and TEACHERS at MacArthur, THE VICTIM and VOS’ family. A lot of people are in pain and are having a really hard time getting through this. PLEASE just end all this.
Death is not an easy thing to go through under any circumstances and many people will be affected in one way or another for quite some time over this ordeal. To all those iinvolved, my hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to you
