Robert E. Richards, 33, the band director at Columbia Junior/Senior High School in Columbia, Pennsylvania has been arrested on allegations of an ongoing sexual relationship with a female student who was 16-years-old when the alleged relationship began.
Richard is charged with multiple offenses including two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, two counts of corruption of minors, one count of statutory sexual assault and one count of aggravated indecent assault.
It is alleged that Richards had multiple sexual encounters with the girl at his home and at least one such encounter at the school.
Richards was arraigned yesterday and was jailed in lieu of $175,000 cash bail.
Reportedly he has been placed on paid administrative leave by the school system.
06/19/08 - Preliminary Hearing Waived
Yesterday Robert Richards waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was ordered to stand trial on two counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse corruption of minors and one count each of statutory sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault.
