Robert Paul Rich, 47, a science teacher at Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Maryland has reportedly been indicted by a Frederick County grand jury on allegations of inappropriately touching a 17-year-old female student.
Reportedly, Rich was indicted on one felony count of child sex abuse on school property and six misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sex offense.
Rich came to the attention of investigators when the alleged victim confided in a family friend, who in turn told the girl’s parent of the allegations.
Rich, who has reportedly worked for Frederick County Schools since 2004, was placed on administrative leave on May 6th.
Assistant State’s Attorney Lindell K. Angel has indicated that a warrant for Rich’s arrest is forthcoming.
If convicted, Rich could face up to 25 years in prison.
Indicted by the same grand jury, on the same day, was Adam Windsor, a teacher at Ballenger Creek Middle School in Frederick, Maryland.
01/12/10 – Rich Enters Alford Plea
Reportedly, Robert Rich has entered an Alford Plea to charges related to an inappropriate relationship with one of his students.
A judge convicted Rich of two counts of fourth-degree sex offense after he entered an Alford plea. An Alford plea means the defendant doesn’t acknowledge guilt but concedes that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him.
Under the terms of the plea deal, Rich received a suspended one-year jail sentence and three years of supervised probation. In addition, Rich must enroll and complete sex offender counseling, have no contact with the victim, her family or girls under the age of 16.
Rich will reportedly be required to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.

Robert Rich is a good friend of my sister. My understanding is there is NO proof against him, aside from this girl’s allegations. Nothing. So his life is being destroyed based on a total lack of evidence. It’s a joke.
