Richard Priode, 44, a former band teacher at Sullivan Middle School in Rock Hill, South Carolina has reportedly been charged on allegations of taking indecent liberties with a student at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina where he taught previously.
Reportedly, Priode who turned himself in to police, is charged with indecent liberties with a student which is a felony.
It is alleged that Priode had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student at South Mecklenburg High School in 2007.
Priode reportedly left the employment of that school system in June, 2008.
Following his arrest this morning, Priode was being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
Reportedly, Priode has directed school bands in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia prior to working at South Mecklenburg High School.
10/28/09 – Guilty Plea
Reportedly, Richard Priode has pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a student.
Following his plea, Priode was reportedly sentenced to 6 to 8 months in jail with the sentenced suspended with 24 months supervised probation.
Priode will be required to enter a sex offender treatment process.

STILL, another music man hiding behind a beard and mustache– and this time cheating on his wife/former student with a current student! WHAT A F-ING LOSER THIS JERK IS!!! There have been famous men who have married their former students; the great historian, Will Durant, was one. But Will Durant wasn’t a child predator like this guy obviously is! THIS IS WHY TEACHERS HAVE NO BUSINESS MESSING AROUND WITH STUDENTS!
His current wife was his former student and she is 34 freakin years old!!! And they have only been married for a couple of years. Did he “cheat” on his wife with her for fifteen years?!?!?! Get a clue!
No, this happened in the mid 90s and he divorced his wife right away. Yes, his current wife was his student. They were just recently married and she was pregnant with their first child when he started the affair with the student. This man should NEVER be around teenage girls! I am appalled that he is not being listed as a sex offender!
Oh, that is just wonderfull to know Amanda. What a shocker this must be to anyone who knows him! Why would a guy who cheated on his wife with a student actually cheat on his new wife with a new student?!? It is baffling!
If his new wife is in the least bit shocked or upset then she only need blame herself. What the hell did she expect?
FYI to you all….his wife, Flechia, was a student of his in the early 90’s. He was married, w/ a child and was having sex w/ her while she was in high school…underage….and his student. She eventually became his wife a few years ago. She must be so proud!
Roger – “if” and “would” aren’t going to help him in court… He’s a sexual predator and will be treated as such.

Hey, (Deleted by site moderator), the age of consent is SIXTEEN in North Carolina. His only crime is that she was his student. If she lived next door it would be perfectly LEGAL for them to do whatever they wanted to each other.

None of your or Neil’s points are relevent. There are worse things than teachers having sex with students? Really? Gee thanks for pointing that out. This argument can be made about most any crime – it isn’t a defense and doesn’t matter whatsoever. Teachers having sex with studends is a serious a crime in and of itself, end of story.
You can’t tell the difference between 16 and 18 year olds? Here’s the KEY DIFFERENCE for those that are a little bit slow: one is SIXTEEN YEARS OLD and the other is EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD. As a teacher it is even easier to tell the difference. If she is in 10th or 11th grade then she is NOT 18 and is therefore off limits.
The law makes it even easier yet for teachers. The law states that if you are a teacher then you are not allowed to have sex with your students. WOW! What a novel concept! Why does the rest of the world agree that this is abhorrent behavior that should be discouraged on every front yet people like you and Neil rationalize the actions of this criminal?
Allen, he is most definitely a predator. He manipulated her emotionally until he could get what he wanted physically. This was not the case of a 16 year old coming on to an adult. He has done this before, and left unchecked he will do it again. Who knows, he may even move a little further down the age bracket next time.
I think all Neil is really trying to say here is that Priode is not an evil person because of this. Obviously he should not have had sex with a student, but that does not make him a predator. He did not rape anybody. He didn’t do anything that wasn’t consented to by the other person. Neil is making the point that there are a lot worse people out there than someone who had consensual sex with a student.
There is a difference between molesting 5 year olds and having sex with a 16 year old. Many, if not most 16 year olds are not distinguishable from 18 year olds and do not look like children.

So, again, not a good thing to do, but it does not make him a horrible person (at lost not more horrible than the millions upon millions of other people who do it).
You would be surprised what is a sex crime in some places. This is from the VA code of laws. Oral sex is a felony.
A. If any person carnally knows in any manner any brute animal, or carnally knows any male or female person by the anus or by or with the mouth, or voluntarily submits to such carnal knowledge, he or she shall be guilty of a Class 6 felony
Also, if you’ve ever had sex with someone who was drunk you are a rapist, since a drunk person cannot legally give consent.
I am not necessarily defending Neil, just trying to shed some more light on what he is saying. We don’t really know if this guy was a predator or not. Obviously he shouldn’t be teaching anymore, but people are declaring this he is a horrible person because of this. Plenty of good people do things they are not proud of.

I personally know the girl that this happened to and I know her whole story, anyone that has doubts should shut their mouths until they meet her. No one can say that she is lying, this really did happen, whether everyone is just too ignorant to see that this man was a pedophile is the real question
