(04/08/08 - Initial BBT Report)
Ranulfo “Randy” Arias, 26, a Spanish teacher and cross-country coach at Akins High School in Austin, Texas has been charged with improper relationship between educator and student on allegations that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a female student and sought to marry her.
It is alleged that Arias began a sexual relationship with the 17-year-old girl in early March of this year, that they would see each other on Saturdays and that they engaged in sexual activity.
Arias reportedly came to the attention of authorities last Thursday when he, the girl and her mother last went to apply for a marriage license. A person under the age of 18 can not obtain a marriage license in Texas without parental consent. The following day an arrest warrant was obtained for Arias.
The school placed Arias on paid administrative leave on Friday as a result of the issuance of the warrant.
On Monday evening Arias turned himself in and was subsequently released on $5,000 personal recognizance bond.
If convicted of the charge, Arias faces a possible prison sentence of from 2 to 20 years.
07/22/08 - Grand Jury Indictment
A Travis County grand jury has indicted Ranulfo “Randy” Arias for having an inappropriate relationship with one of his students.
Arias faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Oh dear God, help us…if Denice is a representative example of the kind of student who’s graduating from our high schools these days, then our country’s future is indeed very, very dim…..

I’m confused - isn’t the age of consent in Texas 17? So what’s the crime here? And if the mother knew and went with them to get a marriage license, why would they indict him? Stupid government. Perhaps there are more facts than we realize.

You know Randy is a very good guy, I went to school with him. The mom consented to it and I don’t think he was in the wrong in the way that he didn’t rape her or molester her. Its the other teachers people need to be worried about

I just graduate from Akins HS and I actually met mr arias he was very very good looking , please the girl knew what she was doing, he didn’t rape her or something because she and her mother agreed to that. There is no ponit of accusing him and send him to jail for 20 years, I mean it was wrong but he even if he was doing a mistake he still wanted to marry the girl, they were in love, , either way, she’s 17 so she’s kinda aware of her mistake
god that girl was lucky cuz he’s hot!!! ( ok ok I’m 20)

OKAY I DONT KNOW IF THIS WOULD REALLY HELP BUT IF IT DOES IN ANY WAY MY OPINION IS THAT HE SHOULD NOT BE PUNISH IN ANYWAY I GO TO THE AKINS SCHOOL AND IM 18 YRS BUT HES A REALLY GOOD TEACHER AND IM SHURE HE NEVER WOULD DO SOMETHING TO HARM ANYONE AND IF HE DID IT, IT WAS NOT JUST HIM TAKING THE DECCITION BUT ALSO THE GIRL IF HE DID SOMETHING IT WAS BECAUSE THE GIRL INSISTED AND PLUS THE MOTHER NEW ABOUT IT AND THEY WERE GOING TO GET MARRY BASED ON YOUR INFORMATION, BUT THE FACT IS THAT US STUDENTS OF THE AKINS SCHOOL ARE WITH HIM AND WE DONT WANT NOTHING TO BE DONE WITH HIM, YES IT WAS WRONG BUT YOU HAVE TO THINK THAT SHE WAS 17 YEARS OLD AND STATE OF TEXAS SAYS YOU ARE LEGALY AN ADULT PLEASE ALL WE ASK IS TO THINK MORE THAN THREE TIMES BEFORE TAKING A DECCITION PLEASE HIS A NICE PERSON AND CARING OF HIS STUDENTS HE WILL CARE ABOUT THE GRADES HE WAS AN OUTSTANDING TEACHER PLEASE. I KNOW PEOPLE AND GIRLS THAT ARE 12 YRS AND ARE PARENTS AND PEOPLE THAT ARE OVER AGE AND THERE DATING MINORS HIS NOT THE FIRST ONE DOING THIS AND LIKE THEY SAY IN LOVE EVERYTHING COUNTS EVERYTHINK AND HE DID NOT DO HARM TO NO BODY!!!
