Ralph Kelly, 34, of Denver, a teacher at Brighton Collegiate High School in Brighton, Colorado has been arrested for investigation of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.

Brighton Collegiate High School is the new name of the charter school where Carrie McCandless taught and David Mundy, Jr. substitute taught.

I know Ralph Kelly a little bit better than most people, especially the school board who performed the background check on him. This isn’t the first time he’s been to the United States, and it isn’t the first time he’s been in a position of trust which he blatantly abused.
I know two sides to Ralph Kelly: the good side that many of his students saw, and a much darker side which has been exposed to at least one of his students. The face I see in the mug shot pictured above is indeed frightening, but one I’m sorry to say I’m not entirely unfamiliar with. I know this dark side to him, for I have seen it up close. However, I consider myself lucky enough not to have experienced the greater pain which I am well aware he has inflicted upon other people.
Without revealing too much information to protect the innocent, Ralph Kelly had committed a similar crime over a decade ago in another area of the United States. When reported to the police, he immediately fled the country, returned to Ireland, and was never apprehended until now. It pains me to know that he entered the country again, only now I am relieved that he has been caught. I can’t forgive him for the unthinkable thing he did to those I know and care about. I hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law, and furthermore not allowed to enter this country again.
Over the last seven years, the War on Terror has been reported everywhere. Although I don’t approve of Ralph Kelly being referred to as a “fag”, this is what I know to be true: Ralph Kelly is a terrorist. He may not blow up buildings or attempt to kill innocent civilians, but he has come very close to shattering lives through manipulation, betrayal of trust, and disrespect. Although I don’t know all the facts about the current charge against him, there is no doubt in my mind he is guilty.

Ralph Kelly is one of the most upstanding and honorable people I have ever met. These accusations are another example of how a misdirected, attention seeking high school student can ruin the life of an upstanding individual and put all of the students lucky enough to be taught by Mr. Kelly at a disadvantage. It’s sad that this kid will be revealed as a fraud but will still be able to cower behind the veil of anonymity provided by the underage legal system. I urge people to withhold judgement on this case until the trial is concluded.
