Brian Matthew Rash, 38, a former band teacher in the Wyandotte Public Schools, in Ottawa County, Oklahoma from 1997 to 2000 has reportedly been charged with the alleged molestation of former students.

Brian Matthew Rash

Prosecutors have reportedly charged Rash with one count of first-degree rape, one count of attempted first-degree rape, four counts of rape by instrumentation and two counts of lewd and indecent proposal to a child.

The alleged victims are males who were between 10 and 13 years of age at the time of the alleged sexual assaults.

According to a report in the Joplin Globe:

One of the charges of making an indecent proposal stems from allegations that Rash asked a former student, who was between the ages of 10 and 13, to take off his clothes and enter a hot tub sometime between 1997 and 2000 at Rash’s home in rural Wyandotte, Okla.

The remaining seven charges have to do with allegations leveled by another former student about incidents between 1999 and 2001. They allegedly ranged from rape in the back of Rash’s van to other instances of sexual contact. The alleged victim was between the ages of 11 and 13 at the time.

Rash came to the attention of authorities in June when his residence in Wyandotte was vandalized. While investigating the vandalism, an Ottawa County Deputy Sheriff allegedly noticed “You are a child molester” written on the side of Rash’s truck.

An investigation was launched into the vandalism and during the course of that investigation, a former Wyandotte band student, who is now 21, confessed to vandalizing the residence more than once and said it was because Rash had molested him beginning when he was in the fifth grade.

During the course of the investigation, a second former band student came forward telling investigators that Rash sexually abused him also.

Rash was taken into custody Friday in Joplin, Missouri by Jasper County sheriff’s deputies, who arrested him on an Ottawa County warrant. Following his arrest, Rash was being held in the Jasper County Jail on $650,000 bail and will be extradited to Oklahoma to face the charges.

Reportedly, Rash’s former wife told investigators that Rash confessed to her “he loved” the student and “could not imagine his life without him”.

Rash was reportedly worked at Wyandotte Public Schools from 1997 to 2000. Prior working there, he reportedly worked for the Catholic School District of Joplin, Missouri from 1995 to 1997 and most recently worked for the Neosho, Missouri School District from 2000 to 2007.

A report by The Neosho Daily News indicates:

Rash reportedly told Oklahoma authorities he performed oral sex with a former band student in Neosho.
