Noygel Antonio Massop, 41, a former English teacher and boys basketball coach at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, Florida has been arrested and jailed without bail on five charges of sexual battery for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old female student from about Oct. 1, 2007, to Nov. 4, 2008.
Police arrested Noygel on Dec. 19, a day after he allegedly implicated himself in a recorded telephone conversation police set up with the teen .
Reportedly school officials suspected a sexual relationship between a Massop and the student and questioned both in December, 2007 or January, 2008 and both denied there was a relationship.
According to police the relationship began when the girl was a sophomore.
Reportedly Massop left J.P. Taravella High School prior to his arrest and returned to working at at Coconut Creek High School, where he taught previously. Massop was working at Coconut Creek High School as a full-time substitute at the time of his arrest.
Reportedly in the arrest affidavit it is alleged that Massop and the girl had sex in his locked classroom, in the boys locker room, in a grassy area outside a school building, in his vehicles and at his home.
01/23/09 – Judge Sets Bond and Conditions of Release
A judge has set bail for Noygel Antonio Massop who has been jailed without bond since his arrest on December 19 on five charges of sexual battery.
Massop’s bond amount has been set at $50,000 and conditioned upon Massop wearing a GPS monitor and having no contact with minors or the alleged victim.
09/03/09 – No Contest Plea
Noygel “Tony” Massop has reportedly pleaded no contest to four counts of sexual battery on a victim between the ages of 12 and 17 and one count of attempted sexual battery on a victim older than 12.
Massop had no plea agreement with prosecutors and as a result the judge will decide his sentence.
Under state sentencing guidelines, Massop could face from almost 18 years to 135 years in prison, although the judge could impose a lesser sentence.
Sentencing is set for October 9th.
10/09/09 – Sentencing
Noygel “Tony” Massop has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Under state sentencing guidelines Massop faced between 17 and 135 years in prison. However, Assistant State Attorney Mary Ann Braun did not contest a defense motion to allow the judge to sentence below the guidelines.

Age is irrelevant in this case. He is not being sent to jail for 18 years because of the age of the victim, her state of mind, or any activity that “provoked” him to engage in sexual relations with one of his students. He is going to jail for a LOOOONG time because the legislature of Florida has explicitly made illegal certain activity of teachers in a position of authority over students, namely, sexual misconduct. She very well could have been physically mature and sexually very experienced with every boy in her high school –or her county, for that matter. It does not matter in the eyes of the law. None of that excuses HIS deliberate, premeditated, long-term behavior. And that is why he is going to jail.
And any young man out there who thinks, “Well, I would have done the same thing in his shoes…,” thank your lucky stars. Had you been her teacher, that could have been you looking at 18 yards long.
No one set anyone up- he wanted it & so did she; she just wasn’t legal. It sucks but Massop was shady anyway. Being an authorative figure, he should’ve known better. The only reason people liked him was because he coached the basketball team which, by the way I don’t know if you guys remember, blew. & stop typing like you’re idiots, pretend like Creek might have taught you something.

IF IT WOULDA BEEN AN AT AGE CHICK IT WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN SUCH A BIG DEAL. & THE CHICKS THAT LET IT HAPPEN IS CUZ THEY LIKED & WANTED IT.

I also im a cchs student c/o 2009 i for one would like to say that this is very hard for me to hear because my freshman year massop was my teach… i would’nt even think he would ever commite such a crime, but i guess i can’t juge a book by it’s cover.. massop maye God have mercy on you.
