Nina Urban, an English teacher at Lucas-Luray High School in Lucas, Kansas has been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a male student.
After an investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Thursday and Urban turned herself in to the sheriff’s office.
Reportedly Urban is facing a charge of unlawful sexual relations.
Urban came to the attention of authorities when the boy’s parents contacted the sheriff’s office with allegations that their son had been having a sexual relationship with Urban.
Following her arrest and booking, Urban was reportedly released on $10,000 bond.
Urban, who according to the school web site, is in her first year with the school has been placed on administrative leave.
01/31/09 – Case Update
Reportedly Nina Urban is set for arraignment on February 12th.
According to Salina.com:
Russell County Sheriff John Fletcher serves on the Lucas-Luray School Board with board member David Urban.
He would not comment Thursday on whether the two Urbans are related or discuss any other details about the case.
02/13/09 – Arraignment
Nina Urban made her initial appearance in Russell County District Court for arraignment on Thursday.
A preliminary hearing date was not set during Thursday’s hearing but will be set later.
Urban remains free on $10,000 bond.
11/04/09 – Guilty Plea
Nina Urban has reportedly pleaded guilty to a felony count of unlawful sexual relations.
Sentencing is set for January 5th.
03/02/10 – Sentencing
Nina Urban has been sentenced to probation.
Reportedly, Russell County Attorney Daniel Krug said probation was the presumptive sentence for unlawful sexual relations.
If/when we can learn the length of Urban’s probation we will post it here.
As a seven year resident of Lucas I totally agree the Urban clan have run roughshod for years. But, they are not the only “prominent” last names of families in Lucas to where they are not included in vicious gossip, law enforcement giving virtually a blind eye when obvious offenses have been committed, disdain of city ordinances, the list goes on. For example,
I know of a fellow who got a DUI in town, an “outsider”, new resident in town. Two hours later, a prominent Lucas family member was pulled over for the same thing, and got a free ride home courtesy of the Russell County Sheriff’s Office (deputy).
Lucas sucks and I’m soon going back home to California. Oh, yeah, Californians are looked down upon also. For sure, there have been exceptions, but not many.

I feel like this punishment does not fit the crime when are adults or young adults going to take responsibility for there actions. Why should she only get probation. This is wrong stealing a young boys youth. He might have been sexual active with others who knows but a teacher should not be in that position. Why only probation because Russell County never gives harsh sentencings. If you want to get away with murder or Meth labs move there. And Lucas has its share of criminals who are murderers, child molesters, thieves, Drug Dealers and Meth Labs. They just don’t get in trouble swept under the rug or money in someones pocket to keep the wolves away. KBI needs to step in and turn that town and county upside down. And Nina you were wronf why should you get off easier than a drug dealer or drud abuser they choose to do these things. This young man did not make choices like an adult but a young teen with raging hormones. Oh guess you can’t control yours either.
Nina and the entire Urban clan is an embarrassment to the Lucas Community. The Urbans all feel entitled to break laws, manipulate people, take advantage of the city and its residents … and they do. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. We might as well rename the city “Urbanville” as some already have.
She pled guilty to One count it will be interesting to see if she is punished severely for violating that young boy. What kind of monster is she?
This stuff happens all over the world so you cant just attack the people in Lucas. Meth labs are every where i bet there is at least one in your or around your town you just don’t know about it. Steps should of been taken before this happened. Yes she should of been let go with the other c*** she stirred up.

First of all for all you people that think Lucas is just full of inbred people you are wrong. The people in Lucas are also not half whitted. I grew up in Lucas for most of my life. I did not graduate from that school because we moved away but I wish I would have. The teachers that were there when I attended the school were great. Alot better than the teachers at the school where I moved to. I would choose a small town school anyday. The teachers at least have time to work with the kids.
Secondly was there this much time spent on the person that is missing from there. I think if more time was being spent on that he would probably be safely home by now. There family is in my thoughts in prayers. I hope he is found safe and brought back home.
Bad stuff happens everywhere not just there but since it is a small town it is being blown out of the water. Yeah if it happend I do not agree with it at all, but nothing has been proven yet so maybe everybody should just lay off. Just because one person in the family may or may not have made a mistake doesn’t mean you should attack the whole family. The Urban family is also in my thoughts and prayers.
For everyone on here that is making judgements you are in my prayers also because you need them most of all. I am a single mother I was not wed when I had my daughter. It may not be right in your eyes but I don’t care. Stuff happens in life that may not be planned. I will never consider my daughter a mistake just because it happened before marriage. My daughter has completly changed my life and I would never change anything in my life that has brought me where I am now.
