(11/05/07 – Initial BBT Report)
Montgomery T. “Monty” Koons, 50, a former sixth-grade teacher at Jefferson Middle School, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee has pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated statutory rape of a 15-year-old girl who was a former student.

In return for Koons guilty pleas, prosecutors dropped three counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
As part of the plea deal, Koons received two, four-year sentences on two counts of aggravated statutory rape and a six-year sentence on the third count. Koons will be placed on probation on the third count.
A hearing will be held in January to hear Koons request that he be placed on diversion. If granted diversion Koons would be able to have his record wiped clean if he follows all court rules during the diversionary period. Koons lawyer has indicated that should diversion not be granted that he will see probation for Koons.
Reportedly Koons taught at Jefferson Middle School for 20 years and was the sponsor of the school’s drama club. He came to the attention of authorities in September 2006. He was charged in December 2006 with three counts of aggravated statutory rape and three counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and released on $50,000 bond.
Prosecutor Sandra Donaghy says that Koons had sex almost every day with the girl between June 24, 2006, and September 11, 2006.
