Michael Monnat, 61, a former school bus driver in the Union-Endicott School District in Endicott, New York has been sentenced to federal prison for six years in the wake of his January guilty plea on a charge of possession of child pornography.
Monnat, who worked for the district as a bus driver for decades, came to the attention of authorities when he used his cell phone to take a picture of a 10-year-old girl and asked if he could contact her online. The girl told her mother and her mother contacted police.
Police set up a sting and an undercover investigator began to write Monnat on Myspace. This contact let to a search warrant for Monnat’s residence and computer where reportedly detectives found more than 600 images of child pornography.
