Melissa Chase Convicted
Posted by: Webmaster in Coaches, FE-FV, Georgia, Hall of Shame, Health/Gym/PE, High SchoolsMelissa Chase, 29, a former girls’ softball coach at Harlem High School, in Harlem, Georgia, has been convicted in the sexual assault of a 16-year-old female student.

The sexual contact between the coach and student was a single incident in November of last year. Chase had been the teenager’s gym teacher the previous year and the girl was not a member of the girl’s softball team.
Chase faces a minimum ten year prison sentence when sentenced by Judge Carl C. Brown Jr., who found her guilty of the accusations in a bench trial.
Chase’s lawyer says it is possible that Chase may escape the ten year minimum sentence if the judge finds that Chase has no prior sex crime conviction, she did not use a weapon, there is no evidence of similar criminal conduct, the victim didn’t suffer any physical harm, she did not transport the victim, and she did not physically restrain the victim.
