Melinda Beth Bridges, 31, a former substitute teacher at Jefferson Montessori School in Carlsbad, New Mexico has been charged with a felony sex charge.
Bridges is charged with one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor on allegations that she had an illicit relationship with a 16-year-old male student at the school.
Bridges came to the attention of police when the Principal of Jefferson Montessori School called the Carlsbad Police Department to report Bridges was reportedly having an affair with a student. Police questioned both Bridges and the boy and both denied any improper relationship.
It is alleged that after police spoke with Bridges and the boy that she allegedly picked the boy up at a school near his home. It is further alleged that they went to a motel and had sex and discussed leaving town.
It is also alleged that on the following day, Bridges and the boy began a five-day journey that took them through Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana, where they were detained following a traffic violation in Shreveport in May 7th.
Bridges made an initial court appearance on the charge on Tuesday and Judge Richard Van Dyk ordered her released on her own recognizance.
Bridges has a preliminary examination set for July 15th.
Reportedly, Bridges who is married and with children, had taught at the school for about two weeks.

ok im not a punk…it wasnt my fault that (Deleted by site moderator) was messing with my head the whole time. and she had taught at jma not only as a substitute teacher but as an in school suspention teacher also…plus she was there for a lot longer than two weeks.

And she taught at the school for a whole TWO WEEKS before dumping her husband and children for this BOY. Lee, I own a really beautiful bridge in Brooklyn that I’d like to make you a real sweet deal on too. I don’t mean to make light of your situation, but seriously, pull your head out. If not for yourself then for the sake of your children. Do you REALLY want a woman like this raising your babies???

WOW – you of all people. You do realize that your wife committed a felony, betrayed the most sacred of commitments, violated teacher/student boundaries and attempted to abandon her family altogether? That is not a “mistake.” A mistake is leaving the iron on or knocking over a glass…this is a whole different ball game.
There is absolutely no excuse for this type of behavior and you should not stand for it. “Walking in her shoes” would not lead any sane and rational human being to understand this deviant behavior.
MAN the ef up, dude – leave this piece of garbage and salvage some freaking dignity for yourself. She’s only sorry because she got caught. How do you wake up everyday with the knowledge that your wife attempted to skip town with a 16 year old? You should not tolerate this and you’re only setting you and your children up for crushing disappointment if you forgive this.
Lee, I fail to understand why you are keeping her around. If she is mentally ill, get her into a hospital. If she had a psychotic break that is. That is the only thing I can understand why she would do this and you could forgive her for it. I haven’t heard any updates in the news where she has taken responsibility for it. Screwing around on you and breaking her vows, messing up your children’s live by having a pedophile mother who runs out on them and you with a punk to multiple other states. Then she’s going to come back, lie about how the boy wasn’t gone with her and try to connnive and get your kids. That is way more than just a very bad mistake. No woman that is that self centered, who cheats and who attempts to lie like that deserves another chance. Dude if you are her husband, and you can forgive her and be able to trust her ever again then I don’t know if you are deluded, a wimp, or just the best man in the world. In any of those cases you don’t deserve to have a wife like that. You deserve better!
Mabe people should not judge my wife till they have walked a mile in her shoes. she is an incredible woman who made a very bad decision and is taking responsibility for it!
