Matthew Webb, 24, a former eighth-grade science teacher at Lakeview Middle School in Battle Creek, Michigan has reportedly been arrested on allegations that he used his computer to send sexually explicit messages to a 14-year-old female student.
Webb is reportedly charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.
The alleged illicit contact is said to have occurred in December of last year.
Following his arrest, bond for Webb was set in the amount of $9,000.
Reportedly Webb resigned from the school in January.
07/21/09 – Preliminary Hearing Waived
Matthew Webb waived his preliminary hearing in Calhoun County District Court and the case was set for trial in circuit court.
Both the prosecution and defense said they will try to work out a plea agreement.
Webb remains free on bond and the judge approved Webb’s request to move to Detroit to live with his parents.
04/20/10 – No Contest Plea and Sentencing
On February 25th, Matthew Webb pleaded no contest to a charge of accosting a child for immoral purposes.
Under the terms of the plea deal, a charge of using a computer to commit a crime was dismissed.
Matthew Webb has been sentenced to five years probation and must register as a sex offender.

I would not pass judgement without the facts. The fact is he got caught, and is now paying a hefty price for what he thought was an appropriate relationship with a 13 year old girl. I hope he can get the help he clearly needs and turn his life into something promising rather than menacing.
I know this man first hand and there are always so many sides to the story… for anyone to make a judgment based on merely basics with no facts is unethical. The fact is we may never know the entire truth. Any case containing an adolescent is usually sealed. I have had to deal with registered sex offenders first hand. I know that it can’t be easy for either families. The one thing I have learned over the years is not to jump to any conclusions. I ask the same of you.
This just in! Case is now bound over for trial. Is he guilty? We will have to wait and see. My money is on the justice system.
No contest plea entered and sentencing coming on April 12th!!!! Wonder why considering he’s not guilty??? Judge not Mr. webb my foot! He will have to register just like all the other perverts in our schools.
The plea to a lesser charge is b/c the attorney gave him bad advise. Plea arrangement was baloney, so this will go to trial. The real evidence will come out and he will be found not guilty!
That’s why opinions are like aholes. Mr. Whiskeytits little sister was only in his class. Not the girl in question. Way to make the victim feel like she was at fault. She is a minor and he is an adult. The only character here to be judged is his. So, Peter Cottontail, Just because you have one doesn’t mean you have to be one!!!
For all to read: No one except for the defendant, prosecutors and law enforcement actually know who the girl is. If you knew the girl you have referenced in your comments, your comments would be different. I know this web site says they are innocent until proven guilty, however, I have first hand knowledge of the evidence against him, and the proven guilty part is only a matter of time. If he were innocent, he would not be trying to plea to a lesser charge. DO THE CRIME, DO THE TIME!
With a name like “whiskeytits,” who addresses others as “dude,” at this point I give this teacher the benefit of the doubt. If your little sister is anything like you appear to be as based upon your statement on this webpage, I’d be inclined to drop the charges against him. In a case such as this one, character counts on both sides, and so far your side hasn’t counted for much.
