Matthew Vogel, 30, a seventh and eighth-grade teacher at Stanton Middle School in Kent, Ohio has reportedly been arrested on a charge of attempted sexual conduct with a minor.
Vogel was arrested Monday for an incident that police allege occurred on April 21.
Vogel has reportedly waived his arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.
Vogel has a pre-trial hearing set for July 22.
06/12/09 – Case Update
Vogel’s arrest by the Creston Village Police Department came as the result of an Internet sting conducted by an officer posing as a girl of minor age.
A schools system spokesperson has said there is no indication that any wrong-doing ever occurred at the school and involving Stanton students.
06/24/09 – Case Update
Matthew Vogel reportedly served as a chaperone on a weekend field trip after his initial arrest on allegations of soliciting a minor for sex.
Kent City Schools officials have said they were not aware of Vogel’s initial arrest until June 8, after the school year ended.

Well mr. Vogel was a ski club chaperone and he never really seemed bad. He always built everyone up. It just doesnt seem right.
Matt served as a chaperone for my group to Europe a few years ago as well. He was a fantastic leader and never behaved in any way other than completely appropriate toward ANY of the students on our trip. The Matt Vogel I know is a good man. I hope these allegations are false.
Teachers need to know that police sting operations and “set ups” by teenagers themselves is ever present. Flirting with students is a pernicious habit that will ultimately result in doom.
The fact that this “wandernder vogel” escorted children on a weekend field trip and even a trip to Europe is a pretty scary thought for school administrators & parents.
Angie F. is certainly right when she said that Vogel should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, but we all know that that is never the case; in fact, it’s even a lie. Once arrested it is the defendant who must prove that he is innocent. The prosecutor goes into court and accuses the defendant of a crime, and unless the defendant can prove that he didn’t commit the crime, he is presumed guilty.

ok, v dawg would never do that! kardell is right! he is one of my classmates and we both had him as a teacher. he never looked or acted like that around a girl before! he was one of my favorite teachers! i know hes innocent!

he should just plea no contest and maybe get away with probation, but….. based on the fact that he did not inform the school board of his arrest (as is required by his contract as a kent teacher) and spent another 6 weeks with kids the same age as the one who he was accused of meeting up with, he is screwed.
matt needs to get to the gym and work on his glutes because he is going to need them to be tensed to the max. 12 month stay with the ohio department of corrections is no joke!!

besides, how else can you catch these predators without placing a young boy/girl in direct harm??

this has been a shock to alot of people. dont forget that people are “innocent until proven guilty.” I am in the legal field, and that is the way that it should be looked at. I have known Matt for several years, and this was the last thing I would expect from him. He is a great guy, and I think there may be more to the story than the newpapers have let on, or even know about. Matt has had a positive influence on alot of peoples lives including children, family and friends. People have their opinions about him, good or bad, but I dont think it is fair for anyone to judge him at this point. He has not been proven guilty. It is bad enough that his name and his family’s name has to be dragged through the mud before we even know the whole story so have a little respect, if not for him, at least for his family!

Did you text your comment? While you are correct that Mr. Vogel’s actions are inexcusable and perverted, perhaps had you paid more attention in his classes you could have learned proper English and punctuation. (Deleted by site moderator) Although, perhaps it’s not your fault. Had you had a teacher more concerned with education and less about your bra size, you could have turned out alright.

I spent 3 weeks in the UK with matt, he is a great guy who has had a positive influence on many peoples lives. In the uk there were 27 girls in our group and Matt never acted the least bit inappropriate to any of them. He has my support in whatever lays ahead.
Matt was our Teacher on a People To People student ambassador trip to Europe a couple years back.
It’s hard to believe he would do this. We were with him for basically three weeks. He did seem a little odd, this is shocking, and scary.
