Matthew Martin Tillman, 33, a history teacher and girls’ volleyball coach at Spring High School in Spring, Texas has reportedly been arrested on allegations of having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old female student.

Tillman is reportedly charged with three felonies including two counts of improper relationship with a student and improper contact based on text messages investigators allegedly found on cell phones.
The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between May 1 and September 24th of this year.
Matthew Tillman, who has reportedly worked at the school for ten years, is reportedly on paid administrative leave from the school system.
Tillman made an initial court appearance on Monday morning before District Judge Mike Anderson who reduced Tillman’s bond from $150,000 to $60,000. Following his court appearance, Tillman was released on bond.
If convicted, Tillman faces from two to twenty years in prison on each felony count.
Tillman is the second Spring High School teacher to face criminal charges in less than thirty days. Deanna Higgins was charged on October 12th with having an improper relationship with a 16-year-old student and sexual assault of a child.
In light of the allegations against Tillman and Higgins, prosecutors are asking parents of Spring High School students during the past 10 years to talk to their children about inappropriate behavior and request that anyone with similar complaints against Tillman contact the Harris County District Attorney’s office at 713-755-5800.

first of all im glad he got what he finally deserved, sry till but its been a long time coming for you. I have been a victim of non consentual child abuse, so therefore i have no remorse for this act of dumba$$ness. but i must say he deserves an oscar for this role he’s been playing all these years. i never bought it however, i had no evidence to give so i left it alone. From acting like he was waiting for us to get dressed before entering the locker room, to making sly remarks everynow and then, Im led to believe this foo prolly had a hidden camera in the locker room. Disgusting. For those of you who are dismissing his behavior and blaming it on the girl, shame on you. we all knw how nieve “highschool” girls can be..im sorry but he is a grown man, with grown man tendencies. yes men will be men, but men should be men with grown women not high school students. especially married men/and or women. call me crazy but he is a smart man who should know better than to stoop so low. clearly not smart enough. i almost hated the end of the year talk we individually had with him, if i had to be in there alone, i prolly would have said what was really on my mind. nevertheless, whether guilty or innocent i find him guilty, cuz i’ve seen his wondering eyes and his strange favoritism on and off the court. No im not a bitter ex player who didnt get her time to shine ,i was a starter, but, he is a bullshi* artist and needs some serious help.
he was my teacher and i always thought it was wierd how many young girls always came to his room i thought something was wrong but i didnt say anything.
I had Mr. Tillman as an 11th grade teacher and i can’t believe this. We all thought he was the coolest teacher, i never saw him flirt with any female students, but i guess he did. lol. I guess he just forgot he was married, and fathered 2 kids that day… idk. I would’ve never guessed smething like this to have happened.
I completely agree with twe4rtr…This “girl” was a grown woman and an adult in the eyes of the State…AND a willing participant who is walking around the school laughing like nothing happened!! She had a relationship with a married man…I certainly don’t feel any sympathy for her! She should be held accountable for HER actions as well…or at least expelled from school. Her “bad judgement” ruined a mans life as well as his career…it isn’t fair that she is labeled as a “victim”
As far as Mr Tillman…he was a wonderful teacher. I am deeply saddened that he is going through this. My prayers are with him and his family.
I find it very disturbing that there are so many ignorant people posting ridiculous comments. You people obviously do not have your facts straight & are going purely on allegations. Has anyone paid close attention to the stories that the person is telling about Tillman? It changes daily! Seems like something fishy is going on here, maybe she wants someones job?
ive thought about this long and hard, and it still blows me away. i cannot beleve that such an erect figure as mr. tillman would lower himself to this type of crime. i firmly believe that he is a good, strong, attractive, and sturdy man. while most teachers have attractions to some of their students, it is usually kept to miniscule grade bumping and “extra credit” projects. i am fully satisfied with the quick rapid action that was taken to ensure that he is kept away from all younger attractive females.
Every once-in-a-while I allow a little “frat-boy humor” to slip by in comments and such is the case with this example from “Aggie Land”. I do however promise to NOT make it a habit. – webmaster
I had Mr. Tillman back in 2005 at spring for U.S.History. He was a great Teacher and seemed like a nice person. But, his class room window was always blocked so no one could see in…and sometimes I did see girls go in his class room during his off period. ( which I think was 2nd or 6 th period) I don’t remember.. He was very flirty with certain girls. But I never really thought anything of it. But now it makes sense.
But He was a Great Teacher and like I said he was a pretty cool guy. But well I guess he needs to pay for the crime. He was technically the adult in this situation.
I like how this girl is not being punished either. She knew what she was doing, and knew he was a married man! Tillman is a good man, and this situation really actually does not prove anything at all. This “girl” was a grown woman – a senior! Not a helpless pre-schooler.
Until Spring starts punishing the students as well, then what do they expect to happen?
Poor man. I am glad they reduced his bond. Mrs. Higgens has the worse crime here; the student with her was a MINOR! And they thought that Tillman’s bond should have been more than hers? Funny! Texas must be in dire need of money…
i was coached by him. that just seems so crazy. he seemed like a nice guy but dang i guess you never really know anyone that well. and the girl man, the fact that i knew her to is just mind blowing. gross.
I can’t believe two of my junior year teachers were both convicted in less than a month of each other. They were both such great people, and I never would have expected this from either of them. It was only ms. Higgin’s second year of teaching, AND she just had a baby. Tillman would even bring his two year old to work. It seems like neither had any consideration for their families, and that’s just sad.
