Lori June Canady, 35, a former teacher’s aide in the Jennings, Oklahoma school system has pleaded guilty to the second-degree rape of a 15-year-old male student.
Tulsa County District Judge William Kellough sentenced Canady to an 8year suspended sentence. While this gives Canady a felony conviction it does not require her to serve prison time but does require her to register as a sex offender.
Canady admitted that she picked the boy up at his home on February 18th of this year and took him to a Tulsa shopping mall before they went to the Best Western motel in Sand Springs.

To Mary (Ricky’s Mom) -
What would happen if Ricky moved back to Iowa? Since he doesn’t have a record in Iowa anymore why can’t he start over there, live there without being labeled? He can relocated once he gets a career started. This will remove him from Oklahoma laws and their register. The fix seems too simple – am I missing something. I’ll email you directly.
I’m surprised Peter Rabbit hasn’t chimed in on this one with his thoughts.
I agree with Bo on most of his statement, except the part about her having to register as a sex offender. I don’t believe that is at all necessary unless the student is legally considered CD (IQ below 60) and was definately taken advantage. That would change my opinion. Maybe they should as the student if he considered himself a victim or a lucky teenager.
This is the first thing that Lori has ever done illegal. That is why she got the suspended sentence, not because she was a female. I agree with Ricky’s mom on this one though, this is doing more harm then good. And the other thing, the law states that teenagers can’t make choices until thy are at the age of 16. Well what if this happened the day before he turned 16? What is the difference between the day before he is 16 and the day after he is 16? Nothing. The law needs to be changed. Yes she should register as a sex offender, just not for life. She should only have to register for the period of her probation, not for life.
Who commits most sex crimes? Well, 95% of all new sex crimes are committed by those NOT on the registry. Family members and those known to the family commit 98% of all sex crimes. So much for stranger danger.
2nd question. Who is MORE LIKELY to committ a sex crime upon release from prison? Sex Offenders or NON-sex offenders?

The article states the boy was not old enough to consent because OK says a “child” cannot legally consent til they are sixteen. Yet if same child violates a law like taking a gun to school or killing someone they can be held responsible. I’m not condoing what she did but lifetime punishment as a RSO is ludicrous and these laws truly do cause more harm then good. think I’m NUTS?
