Lee Edward Fictum, 32, a former cross country coach at St. Petersburg High School, in St. Petersburg, Florida has been arrested on allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student and track team member.
It is alleged that Fictum and the girl developed a romantic relationship in the spring of 2007 and that when team practice began, Fictum would leave his regular job, pick up the girl, and the two would engage in a variety of sexual activities before practice.
Fictum came to the attention of authorities when the girl’s father confronted her about her relationship with Fictum.
Reportedly the girl’s father discovered a private conversation between his daughter and Fictum on a team web site, a conversation that he found inappropriate. The father confronted the daughter who allegedly admitted the relationship. The girl’s father then confronted Fictum and asked that Fictum accompany him to the police station “to sort this out quietly and man up’”.
Police say that when he arrived at the police station that Fictum requested a lawyer and has not admitted to the alleged sexual relationship.
Fictum was arrested Monday, over a year after the confrontation with the girl’s father, on a charge of unlawful sexual activity and was subsequently released after he posted $100,000 bail Tuesday afternoon.
Reportedly Fictum was an assistant track coach for three years and became head track coach in 2006.
Fictum was not a teacher at the school and reportedly resigned as track coach in August, 2007.
