I’m in love

Okay, well, after two websites disabling comments under this specific article and news report, I can conclude a few things.
1. We should pray for BOTH of them instead of criticizing both.
2. Sometimes people are so desperate for “love” that they’ll snatch up anything available to them. She obviously had really deep personal problems and insecurities that caused her to not only latch onto someone too naive, but a student; an action that will affect her life forever.
3. …Honestly, it’s impossible to rape a guy… If he’s not into it, you can’t really go as far as you want!
That is all.

It appears reading comments posted about this incident on other websites that many may be rallying around this teacher. We have a criminal justice system where people are innocent until proven guilty. That is understood. However, if these allegations are true, this woman is guilty of a truly heinous crime. This was not ok in any sense of the word. She betrayed an entire community of students who trusted her as their teacher. She further betrayed the student in question and if it is true, she is a sick woman. She may be in need of prayers but those who are defending her for the good she did in the drama department need to wake up and not look to this woman as any kind of role model. She was not a good or decent teacher if she were able to act out with a student in such a way. Please, please do not allow her to become some sort of martyr. There are many adults/teachers/role models who are able to do wonderful things and also not commit crimes against underage children while doing them.

C’mon Macklin, can’t you just find an 18 yo to fulfill your jollies…we pay you to teach drama, not actually cause drama….you people need to get it together.

Jim……..I fully agree with you. Isnt’ every school mandated by law to report these kinds of things REGARDLESS if they believe there is some truth to the matter or not? It is not the school’s job to investigate any of it. They are not trained to do so and can really mess up the situation for law enforcement in their doing. In not reporting the possible abuse to authorities in a timely matter, they are also risking the welfare of all other students. Had this been reported immediately like it should have been, they probably could have saved this victim from some of the abuse he endured.

I would like to respond to the two students that posted.First let me say I am glad you take so much pride in the school that you attended.Unfortunately I think your schools reputation will be very much called into question, but not because of the actions of this teacher. What is going to hurt your school the most is how the administration handled the accusations. The fact that they chose to investigate this themselves twice and never report their concerns to the police shows a school more interested in protecting their teachers and reputation than the safety of their students.

First off, i would like everyone know that this incident is the ONLY thing wrong with weaver. with that said, it is sad that someone (Ms. Mack) would do something like this to ruin the reputation of a great performing and visual art academy. i doubt i could have had a better 4 yrs at any other high school in guilford county. this incident is sure to deter some otherwise future students, during a time when the school was finally beginning to grow. being a member i never had the opportunity ( if i should put it that way) to be taught by Ms. Macklin, but i have had classes with the student in question ( props mike ). the rumors and awkward relationship b/t the two began his sophomore year (my junior, 06-07) or at least that seemed to be when they were closest and both began acting strangely around eachother…and this weirdness continued the entire school year. Students were definitely talking, and not just amongst eachother(teachers…vice principle…principle) i can’t speak on whether any action was taken, but if so it was hidden. I’ve read comments about problems in the administration-Ms. Brady (principle) is a great principle, and person, highly responsible for the success of Weaver in the past years, and the blame should not be shifted to her by any means. This was bad judgement by Ms. Macklin and she’ll have to accept the consequences of “taking advantage” of an underage student. It’s the law-stop trying to stretch it ( you guys in her defense). By the way he’s 18 now isn’t he, couldn’t you have waited, or offered your services to a student of legal age (me…JK)

Topic: Leanne Macklin
As a former student, I am saddened that the two parties involved in this relationship were stupid enough to do this.
As a teacher, I thought that Ms Macklin did a good job of trying to bring some variety into the drama department and I know she was loved by many students (even if I wasn’t really one of them). Concerning the student who is so pointlessly being protected by the press (because EVERYBODY within the school knew), I was never a fan of his, I thought he was far too cocky.
This whole “uncovering” has been a long time coming as I first heard rumors of the relationship last summer. I don’t feel sorry for their being discovered since when you enter into a relationship like this, it is an immature relationship that needn’t be continued. However, where my pity lies is in the two people’s stupidity to believe that this relationship was somehow both a good idea and wouldn’t come back to haunt them. Honestly, THAT’s the sheer reason you should be “discovered”, because clearly somebody needs to set you straight. And I also feel sorry that Ms Macklin’s poor decisions will follow her for the rest of her life, because ten, twenty, thirty years down the road this incident will still play into her career and personal life.
What makes me angry is what these two have may have selfishly done to Weaver Academy’s reputation. The school is brilliant in both its academic and artistic goals and I think that it has been and should be a school that people strive to attend. I would hate to think that this drama would tarnish the school in any way.
My best wishes go out to those still at Weaver Academy, and good luck towards recovering from this situation to Ms Macklin and the student: you’re gonna need it.
