Keri Ann Brekne, (Keriann Brekne) 28, a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Lopatcong Township Middle School in Phillipsburg, New Jersey has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred at the teacher’s home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and at the girl’s home in Lopatcong Township in New Jersey.
Brekne is charged in Pennsylvania with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors and was being held in lieu of 10 percent of $75,000 bail.
Brekne is charged in New Jersey with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by engaging in sexual conduct, third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact. Her bond in New Jersey is set at $150,000.
1/29/08 - Arraignment
Brekene was arraigned Monday in New Jersey.
Brekene’s attorney indicates that he has filed a bail reduction motion in an attempt to get the $150,000 bail in New Jersey reduced. Brekene’s bail in Pennsylvania is 10 percent of $75,000.

2/21/08 - Suspension
Keri Ann Brekne has been suspended with pay by the township school board with the suspension retroactive to January 23, the day of her arrest.
2/29/08 - Guilty Plea
Keriann Brekne agreed today to plead guilty to five counts of aggravated indecent assault in Pennsylvania.
Brenke’s attorney says he client agreed to the plea to spare the girl from testifying.
Reportedly she will plead guilty to similar offenses in New Jersey next month.
3/28/08 - Plea Deal In NJ Rejected
Keri Ann Brekne has rejected a plea deal in Warren County New Jersey under which she would be required to serve up to 10 years in prison. Brekne faces additional charges and trail in Northampton County. The case in Warren County will be turned over to a grand jury.
07/09/08 - Guilty Plea and Jailed
Within minutes of Keri Brekne admitting in court that she had in fact sexually assaulted a student, her bond was revoked and she was ordered held in the county prison until formal sentencing on October 3rd.
As a result of her guilty plea Brekne faces up to 50 years in prison.
The judge in addition to ordering Brekne jailed also ordered that she undergo psychological and psychiatric evaluations.
Brekne will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
07/23/08 - New Jersey Plea Coming
The attorney for Keri Ann Brekne has filed a petition with the court requesting that Brekne receive a furlough for July 31st so she can go to New Jersey and plead guilty to related sex crimes against the same child.
Reportedly Brekne will be taken to New Jersey by authorities to plead guilty to one count of sexual assault of the same student. The crime to which she will plead guilty carries with it a five year prison term.
07/31/08 - Guilty Plea in New Jersey
Today Keri Ann Brekne pleaded guilty in Warren County, New Jersey to a second-degree sexual assault charge.
As a result of her guilty plea, Brekne who is already facing up to 50 years in prison in Pennsylvania is now facing up to 10 years in prison in New Jersey.
10/10/08 - Sentencing in Pennsylvania
A judge in Northampton County, Pennsylvania today sentenced Keri Ann Brekne to a prison term of from 15 to 30 years.
The judge said that this was the worst case of abuse she has seen.
At the sentencing hearing Brekne apologized to the victim and her family, as well as to her own relatives and told the judge, “I’m not a sexual predator and will not repeat any of these offenses.”
In addition to her prison sentence in Pennsylvania, Brekne faces up to 5 to 10 years in prison in New Jersey.
Brekne will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
10/21/08 - Brekne Wants Sex-abuse Sentence Tossed
Keri Ann Brekne claims her sentence of 15 to 30 years is illegal.
An attorney for Brekne in a court filing claims the court abused its discretion in sentencing Brekne earlier this month and seeks to have the sentence tossed out.

When I was 14 I prayed daily to be molested by a chick like Keri Ann. Why do other people get all the luck?

Brekne was my favorite teacher. She gave me rides home and invited my family and I one a skiing trip with her. She was my role model, my friend, my teacher, and I respected her. We became close. We saw each other almost every other morning because she was my student council advisor. It hurts to know that somone that you came close to,hurt someone this way. I think that what she did is disgusting, shameful, and that whatever punishment she recieves, I hope she suffers. When you are molested,all of you power and dignity is taken from you. She hurt many people, especially her co-workers and students that she was close to. I hope that she got the punishment that she diserved because NO ONE has the righgt to take away somone’s dignity and self respact. She once told me that children are a precious gift from God and that anyone that hurts children should suffer the consiquences. She aslo said that molesting chilren is the worst crime that somone could ever do and that child molesters should be in jail forever.I hope that she suffer as much as possible for hurting someone like that. SHAME ON HER!!

I graduated from Lopat in 2005 and I had Brekne the year before that and she was the coolest teacher ever, its unbelievable that someone you respected and looked up too as a 7th grader could do this.

Keri ann brekne was my social studies teacher at the time. she was really nice you would never know that she was a lezbo. she used to play the funnist games with us. She said good bye to me on january 22 and then the next day I seen her picture in the paper and the little message that she alsaulted a girl that I knew all i got to say to Keri Ann is screw you

Let’s see….you mean to tell me a 28 yr old teacher drives on a school night from Bethlehem, PA to New Jersey to pick up the girl, bring her back to her home in PA, molest her and return her to her NJ home at 4 AM (again on a school/work night) because who is obsessed with who???? I guess EZ pass records and other police evidence lies! Not to mention there is so much more. Since when did an adult female teacher sexually abusing a 14 year old girl become mentoring???? Just wandering! I suppose all those explicit text messages from Brekne to the student don’t mean anything either. Nobody accepts a plea offer if they are innocent…nobody!!! They go to trial and prove their innonence. Brekne can’t do that because there is way too much evidence against her. If she went to trial she would do a lot more time than she will be accepting the plea offer. Who is obsessed with who? You owe the victim, the family and the community an apology for your rude and ignorant comments. Shame on Brekne and shame on you!!!
