Kenneth William Taylor, 47, a technology and wood shop teacher at Roy Junior High School in Roy, Utah has reportedly been arrested on allegations of a sexual relationship with a now 17-year-old female who is a former student.
Reportedly, Taylor is facing six felony counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
It is alleged that Taylor manipulated the girl into having sex with him when she was 16 or 17-years-old. The sexual relationship is alleged to have started after the alleged victim was no longer a student at Roy Junior High School.
Taylor came to the attention of authorities on August 31st when someone became suspicious and contacted police. The following day school officials suspended Taylor, who had taught at the school for five years. He resigned 3 days later.
01/25/10 – Guilty Plea
Reportedly, Kenneth William Taylor has pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old.
Under the terms of the plea bargain, three other identical charges were dismissed.
The judge ordered a pre-sentence report and set sentencing for March 17th.
03/17/10 – Sentencing
Kenneth William Taylor has been sentenced to zero to five years on each of three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old.
The judge ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
Reportedly, Taylor will be be on the sex offender registry for at least 13 years.

When it’s consensual sex with a 16 or 17 year old it’s such a gray area in my opinion. Maybe not in all cases but many. I remember being that age and dating girls that age and some of them were…how do you say it nicely? You can’t. Some of the girls were tramps even as early as 16. I knew 16-year-olds that got their kicks trying to entice older men. That might not be the case here, but I’m sure there are indeed nice guys doing hard time for succumbing the the allure of some jailbait who he should’ve steered clear of.
And as a 47 year old adult that teaches young girls he should have self control. Would you feel the same if the 16 or 17 year old girl was your daughter?

come on people. I am fed up with paying tax dollars for people like Mr. Taylor to go to prison when we have hardened criminals on the streets! It was a consensual relationship where she knew exactly what she was doing and now we have a good man who made one mistake sitting next to murderers and rapists. It’s ridiculous. I am not condoning his actions but was the story even considered? I think not. And because he chose the hard road and was honest, now he is suffering. Gvie me a break.
I could not agree more. She wasn’t even at his school anymore and was 17…I just dont get this crime. I have never had sex with an “underage” girl but I think that sex with a 17 year old should be legal. 16 is where I would draw the line.
Some day when you have a daughter 17 come back and tell us its ok that shes sleeping with her 47 year old teacher. We pay teachers to teach our kids not sleep with them. If a teacher cant control himself then he shouldnt be teaching high school. The morals of this country have gone down the drain.
One only has to read the article on this man sentencing to see how destructive these relationships really are to these young girls.While his lawyer talks about how hard he is working to repair his relationship with his wife,children and church this young girl asks that the no contact order be lifted in the apparent belief that they are in love and will be together.I wonder what will become of this girl when she finally realizes that was never Mr. Taylor intention.

I go to Roy and let me just say that this girl is not innocent. She is gross and it was as much of her fault as his. Ya it was a huge mistake on his part but he is not this bad creepy guy. He is really nice. My family is friends with his family. He just had an big error in judement. It is sad that this is all over the internet and news.
I think that its not fair when only one gets punished for both peoples mistakes that girl is clearly old enough to understand what she is doing and the consequences it brings yeah its wrong on his part but the girl was in it as much as he was not only one should go down on a 2 person deal
So you think the girl should be punished.How exactly is that suppose to work?There is more to our criminal justice system than “innocent until proven guilty” which by the way you will not find anywhere in the constitution.What is in the constitution is the right against self incrimination.So once you propose punishing the student you would never get that student to testify.Without the students testimony you would never be able to convict another teacher of this type of crime.
Any proof? Just a call?
What is the age of consent in Utah? I thought 17.
