(08/12/08 - Initial BBT Report)
Kathryn Gill, 29, a former teacher at Fairless Middle School in Navarre, Ohio has pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Reportedly Gill admitted having a sexual relationship with a boy who is between 13 and 16-years-old. The sexual conduct between Gill and the boy was alleged to have taken place between April and July of this year.
The boy is reportedly a student in the Fairless Local Schools but prosecutors did not specify which school the boy attends as the charge was based on the boy’s age rather than a teacher/student sexual relationship.
Gill could face up to five years at sentencing in September although the judge reportedly favors some form of probation.
Gill will be required to register as a sex offender for 25 years.
09/15/08 - Sentencing
Kathryn Gill was today sentenced to four years in prison, with the option of probation after six months.
Gill will be subject to sex offender counseling, she must register as a sex offender for 25 years and was fined $2,500.
Reportedly, Stark County Common Pleas Judge Richard D. Reinbold Jr. acknowledged that had the offender been a man and the victim a girl that he ” likely would be tougher” in sentencing.

Actually, I’ve often wondered the same thing about FL teachers!
I’ve observed that many of the F/m teacher-student sexual misconduct incidents seem to arise down in the “Sunshine State”!

Phil, I think Ohio female teachers must be nuts. Where is the Ohio Reformatory for Women? Does anyone know what its like in there for them? I wonder if sex offenders are treated differently than other felons. I think she got off pretty light considering.

She’ll probably be locked up in the Ohio Reformatory for Women, as Maggie Laughlin. We can imagine a contact between Maggie and Kathryn in the prison. Are Ohio female teacher really hot, or insane ?

This is a tough situation for all involved. As a Christian, we are to forgive–but even if you do that, how do you forget something like that? The bottom line is that in the end she will have to stand before the Creator and and answer for what she did. Yes, the “victim” should face some blame here too. A 14 year old kid knows right from wrong. Where was this kid’s parents when this was going on? Of course the court sees things only in black and white: she was the adult AND THE TEACHER who committed the ultimate betrayal as an educator and as an adult and as a human being. I would be really surprised if she doesn’t get serious time for what she did, though it sounds like the judge is favoring leniency.

this teacher was waaaayyyyyy too involved in the lives of her students. Administrators need to be aware of the warning signs. I’m curious too whether the boy’s parents are pushing for a stiff sentence or if they are going to let her get off with a slap on the wrist.

Are you serious, Lucille? “Laws about teens”? This lady, or any other adult, male or female, teacher or not, would be lucky to have their day in court had this happened to my child. It would be ME facing that judge if anyone were to touch my child. I’m starting to think that before someone could become a teacher they need to have a mental evaluation to help ensure this type of behavior won’t happen. Sheesh.
