Julio Polo, 36, a former geometry teacher of John Ferguson Senior High School, in Miami, Florida has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
In September a jury found him guilty of two counts of lewd battery and one count of having sex with a child for a six month sexual relationship with a then 16-year-old female student.
In addition to his prison sencence, Circuit Judge Larry Schwartz also sentenced Polo to serve five years probation after he’s released from prison.
At trial in September, the victim, now 17, described kissing, groping and oral sex in Polo’s classroom at Ferguson Senior High School and about sexual activity at an airport-area hotel and intercourse in the teacher’s car. The girl testified the sexual relationship lasted about six months.
Polo denied the allegations and turned down a plea deal that would have resulted in a two year prison sentence.
Aside from the victim’s testimony, there was a tape recording made by police of a phone conversation between Polo and the victim, a tape in which Polo basically admitted to having sex with the girl. Polo claimed the voice on the tape was not his, but rather his nephew’s. Police said that Polo conceded it was his voice on the tape when the call was first played back for him.

this was my teacher…and to be honest if he did it then he deserves what he gets but if not then i feel very bad for him and his family…that is alot to have hanging over your head…
