Juan Manuel Cancino, a former soccer coach at Golden Gate High School in Naples, Florida has pleaded no contest to two counts of having unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
In court Cancino admitted having sex with a student in his office, a park and in her home during 2005 and 2006 when the girl was 16 and 17 and he was 24 and 25.
According to NaplesNews.com:
Cancino’s wife, Marilyn, 33, who quietly cried throughout the hearing, consoled by Cancino’s mother, sat up, shocked, when she heard Berry stipulating to those facts. She sat in disbelief as her mother-in-law, who also sobbed, hushed and calmed her.
By accepting the plea deal with prosecutors, Cancino avoided trial and the possibility of a substantial prison sentence.
Cancino was sentenced to two concurrent 15-year state prison terms but he won’t go to prison. Instead, he is free $50,000 bond until January 2, when the sentence will be mitigated and he will be sentenced to a year in the county jail and four years of sex-offender probation.
Cancino faces deportation to Colombia due to his conviction and will be barred from being around his two young children.

I know him also and this is so wrong. he did not do anything with this girl.. The girls he coached were upset when they heard this cause they new it was not true. Funny thing is that he was not a teacher. Teachers be careful it just takes a simple lie from a student trying to be popular to spread a rumor and ruin lifes. he did not commit this crime..
why was he charged if under florida law, a 24 year old can have sexual contact with a 16 year old or older teen.
Not True! I know Juan Cancino. Not true! – I agree with his wife. He did it for his family. Juan loves and respects his wife and his children. He would not do such a thing.

This disgusts me totally! He expolited a 16 year old female student and was basically given just a slap on the wrist as punishment! He used his authoritative position to prey on young girls at our school and is not punished appropriately!
