(05/13/08 - Initial BBT Report)
Joy Blackstock, 23, a former chorus teacher at Early High School in Early, Texas has been charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Blackstock turned herself in at the Brown County Jail last week in response to a sealed indictment issued on May 1st.
Blackstock is alleged to have had a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old male student while employed as a teacher at the school. It is alleged that the sexual contact occurred during October and November.
Blackstock reportedly resigned from the school last month when school officials investigating rumors of the alleged relationship confronted her. Reportedly Blackstock provided a written confession to school administrators in conjunction with her resignation.
Following her arrest, Blackstock was released from jail on $15,000 bond.
If convicted of the second-degree felony Blackstock could face between 2 and 20 years in prison.

What about abuse of power when a school administrator has sex with a female teacher that works for him or her? That’s not investigated or called abuse of power, but when a hot female teacher and a slightly younger adult male student have a relationship it’s a crime for some reason according to the prudes.
Aren’t there killers and bank robbers out there that need to be caught instead of investigation something like this? Isn’t the education system broken and shouldn’t the schools be fixing it rather than investigating something like this?

Its not about the age here. An abuse of power occured. It doesnt matter if she was come on to by the student. She has been given authority over other peoples children, and because she had a sexual relationship with a student she violated that trust given to her by the parents of all her students. I also dont think she had strong feelings for him, since I know both her and her husband quite well. Yes people fall out of love and get divorced, but I dont think that was the case.

I agree.
The law is a good one, but it doesn’t work in this case. It’s the spirit of the law, not the letter. It doesn’t seem lik she was “preying” on this “kid”.
Losing her job should be enough. She shouldn’t have done that given her situation, but she shouldn’t even be considered for a felony charge.

The female teacher is 23. The male student is 18. Last I checked, 18 is the age of consent. Granted, there may be a lot of detail that is not indicated here, however, based on this article it hardly justifies charging the teacher with a FELONY. This will ruin her life. Sanction her, fine. Suspend her, okay. Fire her, alright. But charge her with a felony and put her in jail? HE WAS 18!!!!! What is this world coming to?
