Joshua Uhrich, 30, a special education teacher at South Philadelphia High School, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been arrested and charged on allegations of inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old girl.
Uhrich has been charged with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault and other charges.
It is alleged that Uhrich was sexually involved with the girl whom he met on MySpace for a period of two weeks and came to the attention of police when the girl told her sister who in turn told her mother and the mother contacted police.
At the start of the investigation Uhrich was placed on paid suspension. With the filing of charges his status has been changed to suspended without pay and actions are reportedly being taken to fire him.
02/07/08 - Uhrich Freed On Bond
On Wednesday Joshua Uhrich posted $8,000 bail and was released from jail.
Uhrich is currently charged with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, interfering with the custody of a minor, indecent assault and corrupting the morals of a minor.
05/08/08 - Guilty Plea
Joshua Uhrich has pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, interference with the custody of a child and corrupting the morals of a minor.
Uhrich faces between 10 and 20 years in prison owing to a mandatory sentencing law pertaining to adults convicted of having oral or anal sex with a person under 16 years of age.
Uhrich was permitted to remain free on bond pending his formal sentencing in August.
At sentencing, Uhrich’s sex offender classification will be established under Megan’s Law.
08/27/08 - Sentencing
Joshua Uhrich has been sentenced to spend 10 to 20 years in prison.
Uhrich will also be required to undergo sex offender treatment and register as a sex offender. He was not deemed a sexually violent predator.
Uhrich who had been free on bail was taken into custody following the sentencing.

do you think ANY parole board will let a “sex offender” out after 10 years? This guy is in for the full 20. By the way, just to illustrate how crazy (yes, I meant to say “crazy”) sex offender laws are, if he committed that same crime in California (self-proclaimed toughest state on sex offenders) he would have likely received a 1-3 year sentence.
My freakin’ God. What is this world coming to? Someone please tell me. Please.

Nadia, you aren’t in any of their shoes so I wouldn’t be judging. Josh isn’t a bad person to a certain degree. He made a terrible mistake that he will have to pay for, for a long time. Nobody is perfect. I am not defending him, because I don’t agree with what he did. But he isn’t a maniac running the streets after little girls. I know him personally very well. And I know that he isn’t what he appears to be to the public. Keep him in your prayers and hope that he can become a better person through all of this.

This is a guy where I am certain there are more underage girls that he had relations with - ever since high school he had issues that were out of control and when I heard he had gotten a job working in a school, I was just waiting for the day where his obsession with sex would get the best of him. I see him around town and I cringe that until he is sentenced he’s just free to roam about. He’s even doing yardwork in my neighborhood and my kids are being kept in the house and away from this crazy sex offender.

He was my boyfriend in college and I moved with him to his parents right after college. He definitely showed signs of deviate sexual behavior, however, not of this magnitude. I would have never thought. Shame on him. My God have mercy on him. My thoughts go out to his family.

He was my roommate at college…and I never saw ANY behavior like this. This is truly saddening…
