(08/05/08 – Initial BBT Report)
Joshua Joseph Long, 30, girls’ basketball coach at East Newton High School in Granby, Missouri has been charged with second-degree statutory rape of a 16-year-old female.
Long who was only recently hired by the school district has resigned in the wake of his arrest. The upcoming season would have been his first.
It is alleged that Long has sex with the girl in the kitchen of his home on June 12th.
It is reported that when initially questioned by police, Long denied sexual contact with the girl but subsequently admitted to having sex with her three times at his home.
The girl reportedly told investigators that she and Long had been exchanging text messages about having sex before she went to his home for the first sexual encounter.
Reportedly Long and the girl exchanged nude pictures via cellphone.

08/22/08 – More Charges and a Not Guilty Plea
On Monday, prosecutors amended the complaint against Joshua Long adding two additional counts of statutory rape. The new charges allege sexual encounters between Long and the alleged victim in the month of May.
On Thursday Long entered a not guilty plea to all three counts.
A preliminary hearing for Long is reportedly scheduled for September 3rd.
10/10/08 – Case Update
Court records that the preliminary hearing for Joshua Long has been rescheduled to October 30th.
11/03/08 – Preliminary Hearing
Joshula Long appeared for a preliminary hearing on Thursday and was bound over for trial on one count of second-degree statutory rape on allegations that he had sexual relations last spring with a 16-year-old girl from Webb City.
The alleged victim was the only witness called at the preliminary hearing.
Long is scheduled for an initial court appearance on November 10th.
The preliminary hearing applied to only one the the three charges Long is facing. A preliminary hearing on the other two counts will reportedly be held at a later date.

12/04/08 – Joshua Long Bond Over For Trial
On Thursday, Joshua Long was bound over for trial on additional counts alleging he had sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl.
The only witness at the preliminary hearing was the alleged victim and after hearing her testimony the judge found probable cause for Long to stand trial on the two additional counts of second-degree statutory rape.
Long will make an initial appearance on the new charged on December 15th.

07/30/09 – Motion Hearing Set
According to court records, a motion hearing in the case of Joshua Long has been set for August 31st.
08/17/09 – Trial Delayed Due To Juror Problems
Circuit Judge David Dally was forced to declare a mistrial when a combination of things left too few jurors to hear the case of Joshua Long.
Reportedly, some potential jurors had not shown up, some jury candidates had been excused and still other candidates had been rejected by attorneys.
The trial has been re-scheduled for September 29th.
09/30/09 – Another Mistrial Declared
For the second time, a judge has had to declare a mistrial in the statutory-rape case of Joshua J. Long.
As was the case previously, attorneys were unable to come up with a sufficient number of qualified jurors after too many among the jury pool indicated a familiarity with the case.
The judge ordered a change of venue andasked defense attorneys and the prosecutor to get together in an effort to agree on another Missouri county from which to select a jury. Failing that, the judge said he will choose a county for the change of venue.

Long was my teacher all through high school… I found this site when I decided to google his name to see if he was ever found guilty or not. I have to say, I spend a lot of time on internet, so I’m no stranger to expression “anonymity = a-hole”, but some of the comments on here reach new heights in childish behavior. Seriously. I know how some parents can act when something like this goes down, but MAN. It makes me severely disappointed and concerned that some of you even go to my church! Even going so far as to say that he shouldn’t be allowed in our church!
If you’re truly a follower a Christ, why wouldn’t you him to come to church? I’m pretty freaking sure Christ would.
The other thing that ticks me off is so many of you calling teenagers stupid! I mean, all of us who work with youth and really truly care about them know that most people hold those opinions, but to hear someone just come out and say it like that… Man. Not only are you belittling your children or students, but you’re giving them an excuse, no, you’re encouraging them to act that way by basically saying “That’s just how they are! They’re stupid!” You don’t think they don’t read this page as well? C’mon. Teens aren’t adults, no, and their rationality isn’t fully developed, but you’re not helping.
I know both parties very well and I have no idea whether or not Long is guilty or what. I just know that I hate that this had to happen… Whether or not Long did it, it sucks that he and his family are going through this. Any man would be lying if he said he didn’t struggle with sexual sin and Josh Long (if guilty) is an example of why we have to be so steadfast in controlling ourselves. I would be lying if I said that I didn’t have my suspicions, even when I had him as a teacher. I remember hearing all kinds of rumors pertaining to Long from the year I entered high school to the year I graduated. However, that also makes me wonder if this was just something that emerged from a rumor… A person could go crazy thinking about this. For now I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and stick with the side of the court. Innocent until proven guilty.
I also just want to ask you to please think before you post, especially when choose to align yourself with a church, school, or even a community. I’m ashamed of the way that some of the people here have acted… It’s downright embarrassing.

Yeah Mr. Long was my teacher two years ago….He was actually pretty cool then, but I guess all the girls said he gave them the creeps sometimes.
Too bad he had to ruin his teaching career by such a stupid choice.

The previous post was sarcastic FYI when it says defense filed. It is the Prosecution who filed. Check with Court Reporter and not media.
It’s called a motion in limine……check it out. THE DEFENSE filed it…….why? Because their own evidence will hurt their case. Just because they don’t like the fact the the FBI could find nothing incriminating on phones doesn’t mean those don’t get to come into play. They’re the ones that told the paper there were naked pics sent……..FBI crime lab shows no such thing……….HMMMMMMMMMMM………this case is interesting when you read more than the press. Oh and one paper printed a retraction after a front page article with incorrect info on front page day before. Retraction did not make front page. Seems odd.
Why should they be able to hide anything! Much less exculpatory evidence.
