Joseph Mitchell, a retired Army Sergeant First Class and Junior ROTC instructor at Ayden-Grifton High School in Ayden, North Carolina has been arrested and charged with indecent liberties with a student.
Mitchell, whose age has been reported as 42, 43 and 44, reportedly began teaching at the school in January 2008.
Ayden Police say they began investigating Mitchell last month at the request of Pitt County Schools.
Reportedly Mitchell,was suspended with pay last month while officials investigate the allegations against him.
Police say that the incident happened with a 14-year-old female student.
It is alleged that Mitchell picked up the girl at a store in Ayden, and drove her to her home. It is further alleged that Mitchell engaged in inappropriate and unwanted touching of the girl. Police say that the girl’s mother was not at home at the time.
Reportedly Mitchell was released on $5,000 bond following his arrest.
