Joseph E. Macanga, a former priest and currently a social studies and language arts teacher who also coached girls’ soccer and basketball teams at Lumberton Middle School in Lumberton, New Jersey has been arrested by FBI agents on child pornography charges.
Macanga came to the attention of authorities when investigators from the FBI’s Innocent Images initiative identified Macanga as a participant in an Internet chatroom where child pornography was exchanged.
It is alleged that during an interview with FBI agents that Macanga consented to a search of his home computer and as a result agents found more than 300 images of child pornography.
The FBI said no local students were involved in the case, and no pornography was found on Macanga’s school computer.
It is alleged that during interviews on on April 14th and April 17th that Macanga confessed to FBI agents to receiving and distributing child pornography over the Internet and that he knew doing so was illegal.

mr. macanga has problems. yes, things he has to deal with. but that does not change the person he is deep down, with all the good things he’s done throughout his life. his problem did not harm anyone else. (yes with the knowledge of its happening has affected many many people) But it is an issue with himself. People have issues. That does not mean you judge them differently. They are the same damn person. So back off you ignorant people and have some respect for the loved ones who have to deal with this.

mr. macanga was my homeroom teacher last year: therefor my language arts and social studies teacher. before all of this, i trusted him, and he was such a wonderful teacher. he taught very well, and always had a positive attitude. the day of april 23rd, the day that this man was arrested- was my birthday. i was so shocked to have found out what macanga had been doing illegally. i honestly thought that this couldnt have been true, someone was lying, but no. this man has done something very disturbing. why would he do something like this, when he had a wonderful life? and he taught 6th graders, how could he live with himself doing a crime such as this? this is all very hard to take in, and i really hope that macanga gets help and learns what he has done is very terrible.
