Joseph Tracy Garner, 42, a social studies teacher at Ontario High School in Ontario, Oregon has been arrested and charged with seven counts of online sexual corruption of a child in the second degree.
Garner’s arrest came after a three month investigation which began when a private group conducting an Internet sting operation notified authorities that a person had used MySpace to contact and initiate explicit and, at times, graphic conversations of a sexual nature with a purported 13-year-old Oregon girl who was in reality a trained adult decoy.
It is further alleged that Garner tried to arrange a physical meeting with the girl for the purposes of having sexual contact.
Oregon State Police were allegedly able to trace the internet communications back to Garner’s account. It has also been reported that during one of the online conversations that Garner sent a school picture of himself to the decoy.
A school spokesperson says that Garner has resigned in the wake of his arrest.
09/21/08 – Guilty Plea
On Friday, Joseph Tracy Garner pleaded guilty to seven counts of online sexual corruption of a child in the second degree.
Sentencing is set for November 3rd.
Garner is considered a candidate for probation provided he complies with various stipulations between his guilty plea and sentencing date.

11/04/08 – Sentencing
Joseph Garner has been sentenced to 30 days of work crew and 36 months supervised probation.
He was also ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program and prohibited any Internet access.
Garner was also accessed a $1,500 fine, $1,000 of which was suspended.
Garner must register as a sex offender.

Wierd cause I had him as a teacher as well. And he was one of the best teachers I had….until my senior year when he began emailing me inappropriate messages and attempting to get me to go out to eat with him alone and stay after class constantly. I printed out all the emails and showed them to the school admin and they did nothing about it. Just switched me out of his class. Although he may not have actually “met” with the “girl”, his intentions were there. Just like almost everything else in life, sexual predators develop in steps. Step 1: sending inappropriate messages to students Step 2: conversing with a “13yr old girl” telling her all the dirty little thoughts he is thinking about her Step 3:….. well I will leave that to you to figure out. Glad he was finally served a little bit, and I emphasize LITTLE BIT, of justice.

I had him as a teacher too, and he was easily the best teacher I in the k-12 system. For the record, he never actually did anything, but was just caught chatting online. He didn’t even attempt to meet anywhere like we see on “to catch a predator”. Easteregg, you have no idea what you are talking about, so please don’t leave ignorant comments. Meg you are right, this site should be taken down.
I hope you get through this Mr. Garner, and I will always remember you as the great teacher that you were.

this is a total joke-the guy gets 30 days on a work crew? and complete a sex offender treatment program? all of the above are jokes-the treatment sex offenders get? is what the state orders-and the people who so called give that treatment could careless. its all about keeping a job.they will tell you anything.
