Jonas Silverio, 40, former principal and volleyball coach at Firebaugh High School in Lynwood, California has reportedly been arrested on allegations that he molested three female students, two from Firebaugh High School in 2005 and one from Whittier High School in 2001.
Reportedly, Silverio is charged with 17 counts of committing lewd acts upon a child.
Silverio who was placed on administrative leave in May, when allegations surfaced and an investigation began, resigned from the school system in June.
Authorities say that Silverio fled the country to the Philippines and was arrested Wednesday afternoon by sheriff’s detectives at LA Internation Airport after flying in from the Philippines. He was reportedly unaware that a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Reportedly, the FBI had flagged his passport and agents were notified as soon as Silverio purchased a ticket for Los Angeles.
Following his arrest, Silverio was being held in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
Silverio has been employed at various schools in the Los Angeles area, and detectives are investigating allegations dating back to 1996. Anyone with information about Silverio can contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victim’s Bureau at (866) 247-5877.
07/16/09 – Questions Raised About Jonas Silverio’s Past
The Los Angeles Wave reports that a search of criminal records turned up a 1995 conviction against Silverio in Glendale Superior Court for one count of lewd acts on a child.
The Los Angeles Wave further reports:
according to the District Attorney’s Press Deputy Sandi Gibbons, Silverio plead no contest to that one count in January 1995. That felony, however was dismissed and reduced to a misdemeanor that April, when Silverio was placed on non-supervised probation for three years.
Reportedly there were other incidents in Silverio’s past as well, incidents that are leading to more questions about Silverio’s past.
08/17/09 – Jonas Silverio Pleads Not Guilty
Jonas Silverio has pleaded not guilty to 17 counts of committing lewd acts on a child.
Silverio appeared for arraignment last week. His next court date is set for September 4th at which time a date for a preliminary hearing will likely be set.
Silverio remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
09/21/09 – Additional Count Filed
An additional count of committing a continuous lewd act on a child has reportedly been filed against Jonas Silverio.
This brings the total of charges filed against Silverio to 18.
Silverio remains in custody at the county’s Twin Towers jail facility, held in lieu of $1 million bail.
10/13/09 – Preliminary Hearing Rescheduled
The preliminary hearing for Jonas Silverio, originally scheduled for September 29th, has been rescheduled for October 20th.
Reportedly the delay was due to Silverio’s attorney being engaged in another trial elsewhere.
Silverio reportedly remains in custody in lieu of bond.
10/22/09 – Silverio Ordered To Stand Trial
Compton Superior Court Judge Ricardo Ocampo has ruled that there is sufficient evidence against Jonas Silverio to make him stand trial on 18 counts of committing lewd acts on children.
Silverio’s next court date is set for November 3rd.

There have been rumors for many years of his abuse of power and having affairs with teachers and students. Wasn’t he caught having sex with one teacher in the school gym by the school security camera? People knew he was bad, but he was protected by the superintendent. The superintendent knew of his previous criminal record and did nothing! Isn’t the current wife also a former student whom he also had an affair and forced to marry her to avoid criminal charges? There are rumors that he had another affair with another former student and he gave her a job as a teacher even though she was not qualified and they continued the affair inside the school and after the TV got a hold of the story, then the district fired her. Most people who know him are happy he is getting got he deserves. Fair if fair. He is not a victim. He is a result of his own actions.
All you people are haters, come one, stupid mothers putting a price on their daughters virginity, ok, lets say he did do it, these mothers wanted like a big amount of money to just let this go and forget about it, hoes!!, stupid little girls just wanted money, poor man, he didnt do a thing, he was a good teacher, principal and vice principal when i was in middle school, and in the high school he was in (firebaugh) no one liked him because he was strict, and he had the whole school on check, everything in order, nobody liked him because of that, but hey now that he is gone the school is a mess, looks like they got what he wanted, this guy is not guilty, and next time parents try and control your little girl’s hormones and tell them to look for someone their age and not someone who is older than them, dumb little hoes
All I’m going to say is he is guilty. My history with him dates back to 1993. Nothing has changed. He didn’t do anything to me but he came in contact with at least 3 girls that I knew of at the time. I helped get him fired and now that I know what he’s up to I have no regrets. I was a teenager at the time and now I know my instincts were right. I used to call him jonASS and now I know I was right. F-in dirtbag. You hurt so many people…emotionally and physically. What comes around goes around. Your life is now tainted but remember all the other lives YOU VE tainted the last 18 years….yes…I know you’ve been up to this bs at least that long. Jerk. I just want to know. Who’s been protecting your sorry ass for all these years.

The police need to investigate Silverio’s hooligans called the Leo Club and the Silverio/Mott notorious ASB (made up of Leo members & JS favorites). These student collaborators intimidated students and teachers with equal vigor and should be hauled into jail and locked up next to their fearless leader!

This person had a prior and was hired to work at a school? WTF? TIME TO HOME SCHOOL YOUR KIDS!
To Joe: this man hasn’t gone to trial and the evidence isn’t clear. Perhaps you would also like to be accused for something you “might” have done. I just can’t understand why ANY adult would be attracted to a teenager. I can’t even stand being around my own teenage daughter, especially when she’s talking to her friends.
These are VERY serious charges, and I have seen teachers falsely accused. At any rate, this man’s life is ruined.
The question is how was this man ever hired at Lynwood if teachers and pricipals are required for a background check from both FBI and the Department of Justice. Someone either conviniently cover the conviction or the Board of Education just didn’t care and signed off on hiring him.
