John Hoffman, 29, a math teacher at Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Nebraska has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Reportedly, Hoffman was arrested Friday and faces a charge of sexual assault of a child.
It is alleged that during an interview with investigators that Hoffman admitted having sex with the girl several times at his home.
Media reports indicate that a search warrant was obtained for Hoffman’s residence and it is alleged that investigators seized evidence consistent with statements given by the alleged victim.
Reportedly Hoffman was booked into the Knox County Jail Friday night. Media reports indicate that he was not in jail on Monday.
Hoffman has reportedly been put on indefinite leave by school system.
10/28/09 – No Contest Plea and Sentencing
John L. Hoffman has reportedly been sentenced to 18 to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Court records indicate that Hoffman pleaded no contest to first-degree sexual assault of a child.

You must have not have listened very well in court to what the Judge said. Some of his first words were that he knows that there are those in the community and even some sitting in the court room who probably felt that the victim was partly to blame. He then stated and “that is wrong”. He went on to explain in black and white why society and the law in general does not hold a person under the age of 16 accountable. Mr. Hoffman was asked questions, he admitted he knew she had a ‘crush’ on him,(not out of the ordinary for a 14 year old boy or girl by the way) That he knew she was a virgin, that he knew what happened between them was wrong, was crossing a line and caused her anguish. He also admitted he did these things to her not once but multiple times with the judge admonishing him,” you made a choice and decision everytime for your own self gratification”. As to the cause of her sobs, they were of relief that she would never have to see him again. As to any therapy , she was receiving help less than a month after he started assaulting her in Oct of 08. Im not going to try to explain to you the process and tactics that predators like him employ to victimize people, but if you really want to understand there are many books you could read or professionals who could educate you. She has not lived at home since shortly after he was arrested due to her fear and yes, shame, and the fingerpointing and gossip in the community, and her ‘mommy and daddy” as you put it realized she would need intensive help to deal with what had happened and her feelings as has her entire family. Also if you really were in court you must not have heard him admit out loud he had sex with her AT SCHOOL, AT HIS PARENTS AND IN HIS CAR. It wasnt just at his house! He was supposed to be tutoring her, and believe me “mommy and Daddy” carry a TON of guilt that they too trusted him and thought that he was a great teacher and person, there was no making the victim say anything, they were just as shocked as everyone else when the vicitm was finally able to tell her counselor, and dont forget, he CONFESSED and evidence was taken, i dont think it would have ever gone to court if her “mommy and daddy” TOLD her she had to make those statements as you put it, the police and lawyers and judge are not stupid, they have seen this thing enough to know when something is “fishy” she was interviewed many times by many people and her story never changed. There is immense pain on both sides, there was and is no joy felt by the victims family, they too were stunned at the amount of time he received, the Judge alone made that decision, even the Prosocuter didnt recommend a sentence. Its over now, why dont people let her family and his family go on and try to find some peace, both families deserve it. What happened to him is done, whether he feels remorse or sorrow remains to be seen, he didnt apoligize in court to his victim, his victims family, to his family or his former colleagues for the pain and sorrow he has caused, he said three sentences, “i crossed a line, im remorseful and im truly sorry”, but he didnt say to whom hes sorry to, to whom he feels remorse. Im sure your wondering how i could possibly know all this, let me just say, your name on here is “smarter than you”, well than mine is ” parent of a survivor, not a victim”. Peoples time from now on would be better spent praying for her, her family, him and his family. This is what i have done since April and will continue to do.

well actually, the girl isn’t completely off the hook, though i am at liberty to discuss that. it is none of anyone’s business but the family’s. and were you in the court room to hear her cry that he would be gone for so long? are you sure that’s why she was crying? are you sure she wasn’t crying tears of joy that his man got what he deserved? because i know at the age of 14, i wasn’t mentally mature enough to give consent. puberty strikes and hormones are all whacky. and it’s not a matter of whether or not she wanted it, it’s a matter of the law. but just know, this girl isn’t off the hook either.

Sometimes a book cannot be judged by its cover or the first few chapters within it. It seems to me that unfortunately this “situation” happened more than one time with this girl? it is stated that mr hoffman had sex with her several times at his home. does anyone take into consideration (regardless of the fact that she is LEGALLY UNABLE TO CONSENT- because lets face it, we all know a typical 14 year old girl is perfectly able to consent to have sex even if the law doesnt think that she can) that this girl MUST have been wanting to have sex with him? otherwise why would she REPEATEDLY be at HIS HOME ? Everyone is looking at mr hoffman as some major bad sicko. yes what he did was wrong, due to the age of the parties, but lets face it people, she is a young woman at the age of 14. its not like he was having sex with a 6 year old or something. I am not defending his actions, please do not get me wrong. by no means is it proper for a man of his age to befriend a girl of her age in such a way as he did, but come on! is he really this psycho pervert that everyone is making him out to be? unfortunately most of you werent in the court room when the judge stated the 18 – 25 sentence, so you were unable to hear the girl break out into audible sobs when she heard how long he would be going away for. does anyone even consider the fact that there may be feelings on either of the parties parts? does anyone stop to think that maybe mommy and daddy of the girl simply didnt give 2 craps about weither their daughter had feelings for this man? or if this man had feelings for their daughter? Anyone think that just maybe mommy and daddy told daughter she HAD to make the statements that she made? ever think that just maybe this girl has some emotional problems of some sort going on that are causing her to seek out sex at such a young age? or is it all simply the mans fault because of his role and his age? is the girl getting “rehab” or therapy for her issues? I am sure that she has some, what girl at the age of 14 is going to have sex with a much older man several times? especially when she had to go to his home to do it! I would imagine that if she wasnt sleeping wtih him she would have been sleepign with someone else. does anyoen ever see both sides of the story anymore or has the whole world gone so steriotypical that they are blind to the truths?

Today, Hoffman was sentenced to 18-25 years and must register as a sex offender for 10 years after being released.

I love it when readers beat us to the punch because it shows they care. Sad truth is that to this day we still do not have even one link to a news media report on the conclusion of the case. This happens a lot more than most realize and particularly when the accused is found not guilty or charges are dismissed. It is somewhat rare that we can find no media coverage of a case that results in a finding of guilt, but none the less it happens and when it does we go with the reader’s contributions via comments rather than pretending we are “in the know”, when in fact we are not.

Mr.Hoffman pled No Contest to 1 count of 1st degree Sexual Assault of a Minor on August 25th, 2009. The judge after hearing evidenced produced by the States Attorney found the Defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is set for October 27th at 9:30 A.M. The defendant remains out on bond.

Mr. Hoffman pled “not guilty” in his arraigment on june 23rd, 2009.
His lawyer publicly stated in court they do not wish to “take this to trial”
so they will be trying to work out a plea aggreemant with the D.A.
He as so far not attended any “rehab” program. He continues to be out on a 100,000 bond with the only conditions “to not have contact with is vicitm”. He is free to have contact with any minors under the age of 16 years old per Nebraska State Statue. He has been seen at childerns ball games and partaking of alumni festivities in which he was riding in a car with minor children.

He has been charged with 2 counts (so far) of 1st degree sexual assault of a child.
he waived his preliminary hearing and his lawer stated he is going to “rehab”.
His contract with the schools was not renewed according to the Bloomfield Monitors
published school board minute meetings. It has also been reported in media he confesssed to investigators to his hcarges.
