John George Rainis

John George Rainis, 24, an athletic trainer and a full time substitute teacher at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown, Delaware has reportedly been arrested on allegations of inappropriately touching a female student.
Rainis was arrested at the school on Wednesday, one day after the arrest of John O. Thompson, a teacher at the school, on allegations of having a sexual relationship with another student.
Rainis is reportedly charged with sexual extortion and third-degree unlawful sexual contact.
It is alleged that while the female student was receiving treatment for an athletic injury, Rainis touched her inappropriately. It is further alleged that when the girl attempted to stop his advances Rainis reminded her that he was the only one who could clear her to participate in her sport.
Investigators say that they believe that the improper touching occurred on multiple occasions during March.
Following his arraignment on the charges, Rainis was reportedly being held in lieu of $7,000 cash bail.
06/04/09 – Case Update
John Rainis reportedly made bond and was released earlier today.
Reportedly, Rainis is no longer employed by the school district.
Rainis is the third employee of Sussex Central High to be arrested on charges alleging the sexual abuse of students.
John O. Thompson was arrested one day before Rainis and last year, principal Dana Goodman pleaded guilty to having sex with a 17-year-old student
01/26/10 – Charges Dropped
John Rainis had been scheduled to go on trial this morning, but prosecutors dropped the case Monday and thus far have not revealed the reason for doing so.

I knew John Rainis both as a teacher and a friend and do not think that he would ever do this. I took gym at SU and was 22. John was only a year older than me -23- but was a grad student and taught my gym class. He was totally professional to all the women in my class even though he was really the same age as most of us. After completing his class I knew him on a social level and neither experience would lead me to believe that he would ever do anything like this.
Hmmm. Charges dropped . . . If he is innocent, does he get his job back?

Hi everyone.. I am the girl that you all keep talking about. First let me say thank you to those who did not say completely rude and nasty comments about me. To everyone else, please keep in mind that no one leaving comments on here knows the whole story. No one should even have enough interest in this topic unless they are directly involved. Everyone wanted more information so here it is:
I did not go to any school official, police officer, etc. and start talking about what happened. I do not intend to talk about what happened on here either. I was interrogated by school officials and the police for hours and hours before I said a word. I was told that an adult had called the school talking about my situation. I just kept saying “no, no, no, no, no” over and over again. Once I was told that it would be my fault when it happened to someone else, i spilled. I was eighteen during all of this but everyone kept trying to get me to say I was younger so that he would get in more trouble. I told nothing but the truth and I do not take any of it back. I am not on here to bash him or to argue with anyone who will read this. I am writing to say what no one else will. Don’t trust cops or lawyers or anyone with a little bit of power. There are very few that still hold true to morals. I was never pressing charges on him in the first place – the state was. They were dropped because I didn’t want to deal with any of this. I refused to help. I am away at college when I was ordered to show up in court. I get zero’s when I miss a quiz, test, or other assignment. Going back home for an undisclosed period of time was not an option. I told police in the first place that I did NOT want him to go to jail. In the end, I cooperated with police because it was the RIGHT thing to do, not because I was trying to get anyone in trouble.
- And to all those who are worrying about me “getting off” with no punishment, don’t worry… I can’t show my face around home anymore. I almost changed my phone number because of the amount of messages pouring in. I can’t go to wawa by my house without having someone roll down their window and yell some ridiculous remark about my sex life, which everyone apparently feels that they are privy to. I am not a child, nor was I at the time that everything happened so this should in no way be considered “child abuse.” Everyone that is so invested in what is happening with me really need to take a step back and analyze their own lives. I am going to therapy and taking necessary steps to get over everything that has happened. My advice to everyone else is to pay a little less attention to me- and a little more to your own lives and families. My parents should not be brought up in any of this. It is not their job to watch their 18-year-old daughter 24 hours a day. There was nothing that they could have done. Obviously I did not lie about the charges because if I had then I would be in legal trouble and everyone would be hearing about it.
If anyone has clarity issues with what I have written please respond and I will do my best to explain.

Also does anyone know if his case docket is online? I don’t know how the setup is in Delaware. A few of us back home are interested in how this turns out.
Went to High School with this kid in Shenandoah, PA. He was always real flirty person to all the girls, but hardly ever got the attention he wanted. There are a few times I could recall where he would try to ‘playfully wrestle’ girls in a joking nature… but he was probably just trying to cop a feel. Wouldn’t be all that surprised if it came out that this was true. Agree with the Waynesburg guy, he was always a little off.
He didn’t do this. this is all a lie. The girl is a liar. He was the best teacher, and thhis girl ruined his career, and we miss him.
i played football with rainis at waynesburg college, he was always an odd dude, if he did say and do these things he was probably joking around, but i wouldn’t be surprised in the least if he was serious…
I think its weird that he had he cell phone number, coming from a registered MD substitute teacher that’s definitely against policy, John has always shown more interest in helping his female students then males, and he always was very arugent of a guy. Seems like the two got him in a little trouble, (right or wrong). At Salisbury some of my friends that were girls always said they saw him staring at they’re chest so I guess it’s a little hard to place my opinion for him in this case. Ive always told him he was going to get in trouble for not thinking in class. Didn’t think I would be right so quick. Its a shame. Another thing is if I drive to his house and knock on his door he doesn’t answer. Which I probably wouldn’t want to either but seems like he is hiding something to me.

Mr. Rainis was one of the best teachers at Central, till this moment I still don’t believe that he did that to the female student. I believe that she was lying, because if Rainis did so that to her why would she joke around with him so much all the time? Also why would she flirt around so much? It just doesn’t make sense…
