Bad Bad Teacher

Jerry Peter Seale, 62, of Rock Hill, North Carolina a former biology teacher at Derita Alternative School in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system has been arrested on allegations that involve sex with a student.

Seale was arrested on four counts of felony sex offense involving a 16-year-old female student that has reportedly told investigators that she had sex with Seale four times between February 1 and July 22 of this year.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Seale taugh last year at Derita Alternative School having previously taught at Providence High, Olympic High and Wilson Middle Schools.

Reportedly Seale had not been in the classroom during the new school year and resigned from the school system on Friday.

Following his arrest Seale was reportedly being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail on $40,000 bond.

Update 9/05/07:

Today Jerry Peter Seale, who is free on bond, and a family member of the alleged victim apparently met in a restroom. What transpired is unknown however Seale was quoted in media reports as saying, “The only comment I have is that I was held against my will in the bathroom by one of her family members.” and “The only thing I want to say to the student is I’m sorry she did this to me“.

In another media report Seale was quoted as saying, “I apologize to the school, but to the family, I don’t have anything to say.”

Update 9/07/07:

The uncle of the alleged victim is speaking out against Jerry Seale saying he has a Jerry Seale credit card transaction for a designer perfume, a receipt for bedroom furniture purchase signed “Jerry Seale,” and Seale’s signature appears as a co-signer on a rental property contract for the student’s family. The uncle says that Seale preyed upon a family in financial crisis.
