Jennifer Gwynn Tarkenton, 34, a teacher of educationally mentally disabled students at Greenwood Lakes Middle School in Lake Mary, Florida has been arrested after a deputy sheriff allegedly found her and a 14-year-old boy in her car after having sex.
Tarkenton faces three counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a child 12 or older and following her arrest Friday morning was released on $10,000 bond.
School officials have refused to reveal if the boy is a student of Tarkenton or if he is even a student at the school although at least one news media source is reporting that the boy was one of Tarkenton’s students.
The Seminole County deputy allegedly discovered the couple when he went to investigate the car Thursday night.
Allegedly the boy told deputies that Tarkenton had picked him up at his home, taken him to a pharmacy where she purchased condoms and then she sexually assaulted him three times. Allegedly the boy told deputies that they engaged in both oral sex and sexual intercourse.
School officials have suspened Tarkenton with pay but indicate that it will be recommended that her her status be changed to suspended without pay at a school board meeting on December 11 and that her termination will be recommended at the school board meeting in January.
12/08/07 - Tarkenton Resigns
Jennifer Tarkenton resigned her job effective November 30.
He resignation is expected to be approved Tuesday.
10/01/08 - No Contest Plea
Today, in a plea deal, Jennifer Tarkenton pleaded no contest to one count of felony battery and was sentenced to five years probation.
Tarkenton, who has since gotten married and goes by Jennifer Nero, reportedly admitted to having sex with a 14-year-old student after sheriff’s deputies found them in a vehicle that was rocking and with windows fogged up. When deputies questioned them the boy was still wearing a condom and admitted they just had sex.
As part of the plea deal, two counts of lewd and lascivious battery against Takenton (Nero) were dropped. She will be required to surrender her teaching certificate for life.
She will NOT be required to register as a sex offender.
