Jeffrey A. Hoffman, 27, a music teacher at Craig Hill and Pinebrook Elementary Schools in Greece, New York and head of the Greece Central School District’s Blue Knights Marching Band has been arrested on allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Police say there are no allegations of sexual contact between Hoffman and the female student, only that an “inappropriate relationship” existed between the two.

Hoffman is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The alleged victim is reportedly a member of the marching band and not a student at either school where Hoffman teaches music.

Reportedly the “relationship” came to light when the minor student’s parents became concerned about a letter Hoffman sent their daughter. The parents notified the school district about the letter and school officials notified police.

Hoffman has reportedly been suspended with pay by the school system and could face up to a year in jail if convicted on the misdemeanor counts.

05/26/09 – Grand Jury Indictment

According to WHAM TV, a grand jury has indicted Jeffrey Hoffman on charges of two counts of rape, a criminal sex act, sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

All counts involve allegations of a single alleged victim.

WHEC TV Reports:

A Monroe County Grand Jury indicted the former Greece band director on two counts of third-degree criminal sex act, one count of second-degree criminal sex act, two counts of sex abuse and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

06/11/09 – Arraignment

Jeffrey Hoffman appeared in court today for arraignment.

Hoffman pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The assistant district attorney handling the case sought an increased bond owing to the number and seriousness of the charges Hoffman now faces.

The judge increased Hoffman’s bail from $500 to $2,500 and Hoffman was held in lieu of the higher bail.

01/11/10 – Court Appearance

Jeffrey Hoffman had a court appearance today at which a judge ruled today there is enough evidence to go forward with the case against Hoffman.

Hoffman’s next court appearance is set for January 19th.

According to a Democrat and Chronicle report, the prosecution has offered Hoffman a plea deal under which he would face a minimum of two years in prison and a maximum of seven.

01/19/10 – Plea Deal Rejected

Jeffrey A. Hoffman has reportedly rejected a plea deal offered by the prosecution and under which Hoffman would have been required to plead guilty to a felony of second-degree criminal sexual act and been sentenced to a prison term of two years and 10 years probation after his release.

A May 10th trial date was set for Hoffman, who if convicted faces a sentenced of from probation to 20 years in prison.

    He must have been bummed when he originally thought he was facing a misdemeanor charge and WHAM … here come the felonies. It must be a humbling feeling to be offered a plea deal with a minimum of 2 years in prison.

    Another music man caught with his hand going after the cookies; this time with a goatee and mustache!!! That’s two strikes against him without so much as looking at any of the evidence!!!
