Jason Berman, 34, a social studies teacher at Half Hollow Hills West High School in Dix Hills, New York has been arrested and charged on allegations of having sex with a 15-year-old boy.
Reportedly Berman has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual act, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of sexual performance of a child. The latter charge owing to Suffolk computer crime detectives allegedly finding child pornography on Berman’s home computer during their investigation.
Police say that the alleged victim is not a student in the district where Berman works and that Berman and the boy met via a chat room on a gay mens’ web site.
It is alleged that Berman picked up the teen from his home on January 31st and took him to Berman’s home. It is further alleged that the two had sex while at Berman’s home.
Berman came to the attention of police when the boy told a high school counselor about the encounter and police were notified.
02/14/09 – Court Appearance
Today, Jason Berman made an initial court appearance for arraignment and pleaded not guilty to charges arising from allegations that he had sex with a 15-year-old boy he met in an online chat room.
Bail for Berman was set in the amount of $35,000 cash or $70,000 bond and he was released Saturday afternoon.

No “Common Sense”, You do not have common sense because if you did you would have the common sense to wait this out intill both sides told their stories and all evidence is realeased. It is probable that berman is guilty considering the evidence but as his former student and friend I will not judge him in till the judge has made her ruling. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED…The media is super bias. And your alien theory is super annoying only because a collge buddy could have roomed with him and downloaded it…again most likely it is but he is pleading non guilty and clearly has something to say. Stop judging. You sound rediculous.

Disagree all you want. It will be me sitting here telling you I told you so when he is convicted. Probably not even by a jury of his peers, but more likely by a confession by Berman.
“I love Berman, he was a great teacher, he was around me all the time, blah blah blah, and it doesn’t bother me that he was around me and then went home to his computer full of kiddy porn.” Hahaha come on people. The kiddy porn alone is punishable by a year in prison being it’s a FELONY to possess child porn. This man was not as great as you all think being that he had children engaged in sex acts on his home computer. Any of you defenders have an explanation on that?
Some of you ask why I feel so strongly. It’s because I’ve seen it all too often. And I’ve scene a naive community rally behind a sexual predator whom they think could never do what they allegedly did. And I take solace in knowing that you will all see the light when the facts are brought to the surface and justice is served.

Mario, there is not alot of information about the child pornography on Berman’s computer. Mabey it could have been a single picture or mabey it could have been hours and hours of videos. No one knows…
The fact is that we will wait for what he needs to say, what the child needs to say, and more importantly what the judge will say
I disagree with “Common Sense”… the kid could have lied about having sex… kids do it all the time, for many different reasons… As a professor of psychology ??? you should know this, As far as child porn, does anyone know the details about this? …Before you condemn him, get your facts.
All I am going to say is…on other “bad Teacher’s” profiles, do you see this kind of love and support for the guy in the mugshot?…not usually.
The bottom line is, NO ONE KNOWS what actually happened…I love Berman and I am completely Bias here but these are the the true facts…

So “Common Sense”, why are you pushing so hard here when the man has yet to be brought to trial? He is pleading non guilty and has someting to say. Why don’t you stop being so naive and stop listening to whatever the press tells you.
These situations are different from one another…BOTH sides need to be heard and that is the bottom line.
Another sad fact is that even if Berman is innocent, his life is destroyed. Our community is mourning the loss of what we thought was an asset to the school. So allow us to be bias and stop acting so condescending and try to see why it is so hard for us to cope with Mr. Berman’s arrest and maybe why it is so hard to look at him critically.
I am just going to hope that Berman has something to say…and if he doesn’t so be it. But the answers are far away and meanwhile students parents and west staff are heartbroken so respect that and stop being such a jerk Common Sense.

Are you all so naive to think that it’s not possible that this man could be two-faced? Is it not possible that he was nice to all of your faces but had a dark secret? Actually, being a psychology professor, I think it’s safe to say I know more about pedophiles than you do. And the scenario I drew up of a two-faced pedophile who is a do-gooder in the community but secretly lusts for children is not only possible, but sadly very common.
P, go do some research before you go off ridiculing others. Research all the convicted pedophiles, and you will find many were well-respected in their communities and high-regarded by their families and friends. You all sound like those bumbling fools on TV. “Ohhhh he was always so nice we never expected him to do anything like this…blah blah blah.”

Good Afternoon Gentlemen, Friends, Students, Teachers, Parents, and the community.
This issue has brought my attention to a bigger picture than Mr. Berman and the child. This issue has brought my attention to a bigger picture than ones sexuality.
This issue has brought my attention to a bigger picture than accusing one without even being proven guilty.
This issue has brought me to an understanding of the true society we live in today….
Mr. Berman was many HHH students favorite teacher, to some he was even more than a teacher. He was a mentor, often percieved as a man with logically morals, logically teaching, ethics, respect, intellect, and character. As a Global History teacher, he tought his students serveral societies, and most importantly the religious aspects they believe in. Teaching students confucianism, Judaism, Buddahism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. A man of much knowlegde about these things would have certainly have not hurt a child in anyway or commited a horrible sin. Moreover, he said “Religion continues to be a dominant force throughtout the world- affecting everything from what people wear to how they behave.” Moreover, he was also the Comparative Religion teacher and Hollywood and History teacher. In these classes we would watch movies strongly related to religion or important events in history. After watching it, he would explain everything to us. If it was a movie illustrating bad behavior ( violence, psychotic acts) , he would explain to us everything at the end of it. How bad that guy in the movie was, how unacceptable that behavior was, and evenmore we would write a summarization of the movie, sometimes explaining how we would make society a better place to live in, or what we would have done to make it a better place to live in.
But going back to what I said before, “This issue has brought me to an understanding of the true society we live in today…. ”
If a man of such high morals, teachings, ethics, respect, and character could ( im not saying he did) ..’did’ have sexual relationships with a 15 year old boy and have child pornography on his computer is anyone in this world really safe? Even people in your lives that you may think is perfectly “normal” could be a psycho.
Personally, I have taken all of Mr. Berman’s classes, yet I have never thought of him as a felon. He has undeniably improved my life, and my understanding of the world around me. I will now talk on behave of my fellow classmates and everyone that knew Mr. Berman. He has certainly and clearly educated us, which significantly improved our current understandings of Relgion, Ethics, Character, Non violence, Morals, Logic, and Life. He showed us the World’s past and future just by sitting in his class and listening. It is completely unfair to judge a man by mere facts that the media posts. Our community is just a reflection of our pasts such as when the salem witch trials occured. Why does everyone that does not know a man judge him and make him guilty under one accusation of a child? Why is our community so easily swayed? It is time for a change in our society and change would improve the current state of the world today.
